Artisan Cutlery?

Well a lot of their knives aren't designed by them, just made. Bold assumption.

It's still a free world, I can make bold assumptions and even post them onto a forum.

I don't see any designer being credited on their website. That is not an assumption but a fact.

It's also a fact that they are taking serious heat on other social networks. And that Andre De Villiers is getting some knuckle sandwiches ready for next Blade Show. I'm wondering why =)

They dont have a great website, agreed. The only info on any of the knives is specifications. What heat do you mean?

I have a waistline. The blade stock is a little thick for my tastes, but other than that it is nice. I like the slim profile and very pointy tip! My first ceramic berrings on a knife, very smooth action.

Alright just looked up the drama. That's kind of silly to be honest. It's a complete stretch to say those two knives are the same. The designer even commented on his post.

It is because he's paired up with their competitor, Rikeknife? I can't even tell the difference between a Rike and a de Villers half the time now.

He's a shit person. But copying his stuff is still wrong... Tho doesn't look exactly the same. I'm kind of in between it cause I dont care for the guy. But despise copies.

Here's a pic I took for the knife & watch thread.

There style is whack. Can't get into them at all. The quality is decent though. If it screams to you go for it. But they only appeal to a small market. Knives only a mother would love.

I don't think it's that bad but I tend to agree. It seems like they use decent materials. They get a lot of good reviews. I just don't like the aesthetics on a lot of their models. I almost bought an Artisan Tradition last year but I couldn't get past the blue hardware. Sadly, flamboyant color accents seem to be a popular trend now.

Got the small Tradition in. It looks and feels like it's priced right. This particular knife is a step above Kershaw China, but not at ZT levels of quality IMO. This is only one knife I have to base that on - I'm sure if I got the full size tradition and/or other $150+ offerings my opinion might change. Flips real good (bearings) and drops shut.

So here is the burning question. How many people actually think that the name is pronounced artesian like the well? Don't laugh. I have heard baristas pronounce it that way when talking about bread, etc. on a few occasions. :p To me, the logo kind of looks like PD. Might that mean pretentious douc...............nevermind. :D

FWIW, in most of Asia, the swastika is a common symbol which retains its traditional pre-Nazi connotations.

Agreed but it still doesn't look like a swastika to me.

It looks more like a modernized version of an Chinese language character, which is my guess as to what it might actually be.

Browsing their stuff, I notice that their budget line comes in orange, black, green, camo and "carbon fiber". That with the brown boxes and orange print on the boxes, makes me think they are made by the same manufacturer as Ganzo.

My theory is that it's a Latin minuscule "a" (for Artisan) stylized to evoke the wàn swastika (which is indeed a Chinese character). I wrote to the company to ask.

UPDATE: The company responded (via IG) and said it's a "stylized character" or "simplified character" which "depicts a man kneeling with a blade on the ground". I asked what Chinese character it's based on, and they told me it's not based on any real language character. I'm a little skeptical (obviously I wasn't talking to the designer of the logo) but it's very nice of them to answer.

I have the Waistline in CF (it sure looks like carbon fiber, not some fake crap), and its a "budget knife" in name only. I've seen lesser knives for 4 times the price. It didn't come in a cheap brown box either, but rather a white box with red logos and a nice looking black velvet pouch inside.
