Assault rifle recommendation...

Get a M-14. Springfield sells it under the M1-A designation. A classsic rifle, taking some of the best ideas from our WWII M1-Garand, and bridging the gap to our current M-16. Thought to be obsolete, it is now in high demand in the open mountains and deserts. Also you can take a deer with one.

IMO, leave it in the original stock...

I'm not a fan of the EBR/Mod 0 kit but I do love me the Fulton Armory SOPMOD/SOCOM kit...

Also the Bulldog 762 kit for the M1/M14 is rather interesting as it turns it into a bullpup config.

Not as purdy but has potential.

https://www.danieldefense.com/?page=shop/detail&product_id=208 That's the one my dad is leaning towards right now...but the site doesn't offer a list of dealers . Also, other sites don't offer prices or show the MSRP..which makes it a little harder in looking at them

How are Smith and Wessons?

That particular rifle hasn't been released yet. Why the 6.8? It seems like the ammunition would be cost prohibitive for what you want to do.

The DDM4v3 is the same as the rifle you linked to, just in 5.56/.223. It can be found for $1300 pretty easily, and represents what is, in my opinion, one of the best deals going in high quality ARs today.

S&W makes everything in house now and are quite good IMO. I would look at S&W, BCM, Colt, and LMT before any other makers first. Larue and Noveske is a step up from those.

You can also build your own rifle by piecing together a lower and an upper.
It isn't very hard to assemble a stripped lower and buy a complete upper. I just got a cheap(but quality) lower, LPK, and buttstock. I then bought a nice upper and saved enough for a few magazines.

Aim Surplus has a Daniel Defense rifle in stock. Their prices are usually pretty reasonable. Of course, you'd have to find a local dealer willing to take delivery.

ETA: Nevermind. All I saw was Daniel Defense. I didn't notice that you were looking at a 6.8.

I don't think the sopmod was avail. when I made the purchase or it would have been the top choice for me. The EBR is ok if you have a short barrel. If you have a normal barrel it is front heavy...I have a normal barrel. :grumpy:

The bullpup is interesting. The normal wood stock and iron sights is the funnest for me to shoot, however.

I dont think my dad knew it was a 6.8...he was just looking at pictures :foot: (he wasn't wearing his glasses). So i'll tell him that and we can assume he doesnt want it anymore :D

I'm still having troubles finding prices for some of the gun manufacturers...can anyone post an estimate on what I might pay? you can name whatever brand/model you want and it can be from what you saw or what you bought. I'm just trying to figure out the options

Clyde armory has amazing prices on DD rifles. They show MAP on the site, but when you add the DDM4v3 to your cart the price is under $1200. Unfortunately it is currently out of stock.

There's a lot of information in a little space here (including "Average Street Price")..

Very cool...thanks

I must admit...took a while to find. I guess I should have searched street price lol. As of now I am still leaning towards a Daniel Defense. Whether or not that's what the other interested parties think is another story

In my opinion DD and BCM offer by far the most gun for your money.

If you get a DDM4 from here you can top it with a used aimpoint by adding $100 to you budget.

I'm working on justified getting a M1/M14 for the Sopmod but its taking a backseat to a long list of items.

If the bullpup was tweaked and smoothed a bit more I'd go for it, as it is I think its just to blocky for me.

The photo I posted and the production model aren't the same, the one I posted was tweaked a bit.

(To be clear, by "blocky" I mean it seems as though many of the lines are rough and there is unneeded material on it that could be removed to lighten the rifle.)

Anyone ever deal with ar15pro.com? They have the rifle I wanted, as well as the pistol I planned on getting

With a budget of ~$1500 I might consider getting entry level AR & an AK... I'm just getting into rifles at the moment, picked up a nice yugo SKS. So even though I've been jonesing on the AR for a while, I'm leaning to the AK next just since I'm vested in 7.62x39 already.

Maybe buy an AK and build the AR? Instant gratification and a project is up my alley!

If you want a good AR-15, hold off on the AK-47 and get a DD M-4. Ak-47's come and go and can be found cheap if you are patient. Good AR-15's hold their value. ;)

I would totally be up for that! Unfortunately, my stubborn dad (the main contributor to the gun) has his mind set on the AR15 from Daniel Defense. I found it on the website I mentioned earlier for a little less than $1300.

Spend the rest on reloading gear and ammo and shoot! :D
