attention lurkers

Hey to all the blade folk out there!

It seems we all find friendly ground with our own kind. Most of the people I know find spending more than $50 on a knife is crazy. If they only knew what I have spent and what I am willing to spend! Anyway it is great to find a forum like this.

Any Bagwell owners out there? I met Bill at the SHOT Show this year and ordered a Hells Bells. I CAN'T WAIT FOR THAT ONE!

Keep'em Sharp!

Guns? Interesting. Maybe some home protection is needed? Any sugguestions for a forum or a weapon?

knives are much more affordable.
It's funny how I'm not allowed to carry
guns and never thought of knives as a
defense type tool. I've had many knives
most of which have been gifts. Now, for
some reason, I'm hooked.
My first purchase was the Kershaw Boa.
I love the blade but the lock up is
totally inadequate. Also the torsion bar
is broke, I received a email from
Kershaw today saying they will send me
a new bar so that's not an issue at this
point.
My latest knife which I received yesterday
is the BM March Knife of the Month AFCK.
This knife is excellent. I had planned on
buying a second AFCK with M2 plain edge
then switching blades but for now I'm
very happy and hopefully can save some
money for a rainy day.

Hello this is my first post,I've being lurking for about a year.
1- SPYDERCO Police
2- CRKT M16-13z
3- Microtech LCC MA
I think someone asked about the Microtech.Let me tell you, it's the best knive I own.

I've been lurking for a few months, but just started posting today. I've been carrying serious steel since 1968, when I went through the Tet offensive in Saigon with nothing but a cheap dagger I picked up in Manila for a weapon (Air Force technicians weren't supposed to need firearms!). I've just caught "THE BUG" and am building quite a collection. Attended a knife and gun show yesterday, so my "most recent" list is long!

The list, with a few notes:

CRKT Kasper- Big, beautiful, and strong. Too big for the pocket, but fits my Gerber Gator pouch perfectly.

CRKT small Viele Wasp- Beautiful piece of work, but too many sharp corners keep it from being pocket friendly. Gonna have to send it through the de-burr department at work!

Kissing Cranes Stiletto- Quirky, but neat. I can actually hear the theme song from "West Side Story" when I pull it out of my pocket!

TOPS Scorpion- A new offering from one of my favorite companies. A mini kukri style knife in black coated 1095 with a superb sheath.

5" drop point hunter by James Largent- A hand made knife actually meant to be used! Nice brushed finish, plain wood grip, 154CM.

4 various inexpensive well-worn traditional pocket knives.

Hello
I'm a recent lurker. I can't say I know a lot about knives, but I know a lot more now than I did a few weeks ago - in large part due to this place. Seems like a good forum with good folks.

Recent purchases have included:

BM 710HS
BM 710S

3 BM 940's. I bought the first one, green, at a local knife shop more or less on the recommendation of the owner. What a great knife! I decided I wanted a blue one, but couldn't find any until I saw a post here that A.G. Russell had them, so I bought 2. I didn't need them (this might be a bad sign), but they sure are pretty.

Hallo all,

Thanks for this nice invitation Brian, and especially to Pergatory - as I am one of the lurkers from outside of the US.

It was not just easy for me to find good info about knives on the net but I succeeded in finding this Blade Forum. It is great, I am sure.

I started asking the frequent question "the best folder.." here and got realy useful opinions. Thanks again.

I was found here at BF by another Czech forumite David1967 and had the good luck to meet him last month at a knife show in Brno, Czech rep, at least one of you all in physical form.

My recent purchases since I´ve been lurking BF (with the outstanding help from David) are:

- Grohmann DH Russell #1
- BM 710 ATS34 plain edge
- Camilus CUDA Talon
- Gary Bradburn Neck knife NS-2 D2

Waiting for another Grohmann, this time Canadian Beaver #102. Their knives are cool, IMHO.

Take care

Standa

I lurk, therefore, I am.

Lurk not, want not.

Never look a gift lurk in the mouth.

Been lurking for about a year. I have always liked shapening knives. Had various "typical" pocket knives. I bought a BM Crawford Mini-Leopard. Then an AFCK. Then a Gerber Covert.

Sometimes I just hack on things so I can sharpen them again. Then I used my 204 to sharpen the kitchen knives, then the scissors, then the nail clippers, then......

Soon I will be doing the mini-blinds.

Sick puppy?

Good therapy!!!!

Ok. Let me begin by saying that so far I love this place. I have been lurking, but that doesn't mean I haven't been buying! I've been collecting knives since as long as I can remember. Just since I discovered this forum, I have bought 5 new ones, and it's only been 2 weeks! My wife says she's going to take the next knife I buy and scalp me with it. Anyway, the last thing I bought is a rekat Carnivore Cub. (from *shootist16* here on the forums, and I can't wait to see it!!)

Great to see all of you new folks. Don't let this be your only posting. Go ahead and ask some questions. I love to chat about knives!

The first knife was probably used to cut stuff.

I've been lurking for about 6 months, ever since I opened a small knife store at my local mall.

I've been interested in knives and swords for as long as I can remember (caught the bug from my Dad). I spent the last 10 years hanging out with bladesmiths and selling at ren-faires and re-enactment events. Every chance I'd get I'd hang out at cutlery shops, and then online stores.

Since I opened the store, I spend as much time as possible on the forums keeping up with new information and finding out what you (as consumers) want in a knife. The reviews have proven invaluable.

BTW I am one of the growing breed of women that are collecting knives. Want to meet some really interesting women...hang out at your local knive store.

I've been looking in regularly since I moved to the US late last year and felt the need for a bush knife - found this place through the northernlight search program.

I already had an Opinel, an SAK and a couple of other blades bought as travel mementoes (like a kukri) but wasn't sure if they would be suitable for trail maintenance or for allround hiking/camping. So I went to the posts and the archives and other links and read a lot.

Ended up buying a BM720 (which got lost recently, grrrrrrrr!!), a Boker/Brend folder, a Busse Basic 5" and a Chris Reeve Aviator. Am now awaiting a new Victorinox SAK (mine's a Wenger and the screwdriver keeps sticking) and an AG Russell One Hander, both off eBay.

Every knife I buy is meant for utility - at some point anyway - not for display or tactical use, so I'm not really a collector. Just a user who made mistakes in deciding what to buy previously... not that I have any criticism of the quality of what I have.

Welcome to the Forums Alchemy Knife and kmclye. It is good to see more women joining up here. The mre the merrier. If you have not registered here, go ahead and say hello.

I lurk no more...
After seeing this thread, I was compelled to register. The encouraging responses from the forum veterans was the key motivator. With respect to all things knife related, I have a great deal to learn. However, I enjoy being a student of hard-earned craftmanship.

I'm privledged to have a bladeforums as a learning resource.

Thanks to all,
Seth

Be careful what you wish for, my prestidigitationious friend. This may well be the trap you are unable to escape from!

That's Doctor Evil to you. I didn't go to Evil Medical School for six years to be called Mister, thank you very much!

Hi all. I have posted a few times as you can see. Anyway lurked for a few months before posting. I learned about bladeforums thru Kevin at THE EDGE and have learned a lot here.

My lastest purchase was a Darrel Ralph small apogee with anodized Ti scales and nugget treatment. What a sweet blade!

Appreciate learning from you all and meeting new friends. I am hoping to attend the Atlanta Blade Show this year.

Not only do I lurk, quietly trolling for information, but I've been too busy lately to visit! I love useful and beautiful knives. Latest buy is the Timberline Wortac with plain edge-- very cool design. I have the CRKT Kasper/Polkowski straight knife and Ryan Model 7 on order. I like the designs that CRKT is producing; I would be happy to pay a reasonable amount more for a better steel. I was happy to find out that the Timberline has AUS-8. Oh, another recent buy I like is the Impulse, my second of them. A beautiful design that works great.

I enjoy this bunch of fora very much and get lots of great info from this, the tactical, and the knife reviews!!

..and he spoke,"get thee forth and lurk no more.."
Hello all..just some nostalgia..
My first knife of my own was given to me by my greatgrandfather, so I could whittle as he smoked and carved his wooden fans. It was a two bladed pearl handled penknife from Ideal. That was when I was 8, well over 30 years ago and by a miracle I still have that thin little knife..
...Or the SAK tinkerer I bought on a high school trip to Belgium, and it went though several postings in the north and up to the Dew line, and back to Europe on our honeymoon, that one is still with me..
..the little liner lock I treated myself to when I passed my licence for the utility..
... oh man I remember those long black handled butcher knives, working on the kill floor.. " better keep those buggers sharp as you can boy,or life will be hard..."
any number of sensations, or artifacts can bring back memories, no doubt a knife must seem an odd trigger to the world at large.. just another tool..
that beautifull brand new brass and wood drop point, pressed sharp into my hip by the waters pressure, useless anyways inside the waders, brought along just because...
Dad and I just stand in the reeds now, the mallards' wings whistling in and over, they hurtle out of the mauve light, so many, more than he has ever seen during a lifetime on the prairies..

Lurking? It sounds so sinister. This site is listed in my "favorites" folder and I visit quite often.

My most recent puchases include a 5" RJ Martin Kwaiken in 3V, a liner-locked Kansei Mitsuno Cocobolo in VG-10, a 5" Entrek Tanto (440C I think), a CRKT P.E.C.K. and a Benchmade Mini-Stryker (ATS-34 with the coating).

I've found this site to be very informative and instrumental in some of my purchasing decisions. This is a great site, right up there with www.thefiringline.com .
