I don't really care for showing WIP. But it seems like I've been doing a lot of it lately, oh well, I am excited that I got to work on my brassback project last night. I got it rough ground and the brass spine fitted and roughly shaped.

Thats awesome Todd,

Do those pins push down into the knife to keep the brass spine in place?

Yeah, they go all the way through the brass about 3/16 into the steel. The dove tail on the front and back keep it from moving back and forth, and the pins lock it side to side. I cant heat treat the knife with the brass spine in it, So, I will take it out, heat treat it, put the brass spine back in with said methods on top of silver solder to fill in the joints. The pins will be locktited in and then it will all be ground flush with the steel making it impossible to get out with out destroying the blade. I dont know if thats how other makers do it or not, but, this is the second brassback Ive made and this is the same process I did on the other one and it turned out awesome.

Maybe you should think about going to Blade one of these days!
 
Thanks Psy, you really cant get a idea of how big this thing is, thats a BK9 that its setting on top of, (the one in the green sheath) It also drwarfs a M-18 by about 4 inches.

That is going to be awesome man. I love me some big knives.
 
In all seriousness Tyler you have some skills, you should think about making a few knives and getting a table at the Blade show in Atlanta!

Thanks, Its the biggest knife I've ever made thus far. I Love bowie knives (even though I think there not the most usefull design) but I seldom get to make projects that I want to make, so, this one is kinda a treat to myself and since I dont get to do this often, im gonna make it count.

Uh..... I am going to Blade, this is the second year in a row. thats why my shop is closed to new orders.
 
My Mom is starting to limit my BFC time, she thinks I'm addicted :rolleyes: I can think of some worse things to spend my time doing.....:eek:

Yeah, well that other thing your talking about will make you go blind! Your Mom just being a responsible parent. I wouldnt be mad about it.
