Axe, Tomahawk & Hatchet Photo Thread

Nah. I save some (actually all,but not all for this reason) that I like certain things about, the swell shape, cross section, etc. Most of the time I try to incorporate different traits into a handle to mesh with the axe. That Jersey, for example, needed a lot of offset thanks to a rather none existent poll. A lot of Maine patterns I hang on very straight handles, since they tend to have very massive polls and short bits. So it's all a matter of rolling with what the axe head needs from the handle..

Not unlike the Rutles, I do utilize the illusory effects of good tea. The handles can get whacky on that stuff!

You're doing some really beautiful work, Cedar! Big kudos.

Thanks guys. The biggest draw knife has a 13 3/4" cutting surface and is 20" handle tip to tip.

Great collection mewolf1, thanks for sharing. I started cleaning up some our old farm hand tools, here is my Norlund axe before and after.

That's a real looker

Any markings?

Is that a House Handle? If so I've got 3 of those in 32" with heads picked out for them that I've had forever and haven't gotten off my lazy a$$ and hung yet :(

Re-contoured handle and rounded the poll for skinning...It will be burnished/flame hardened later. That is a 22 Magnum cartridge in the photo. These things are shockingly small. So small I didn't have any use for it when it showed up. My mistake. Nice metal in the head though.
