B13

If you are going to try the mousepad method make sure to use very light pressure as anything more may just end up rounding the apex off. You could also use a piece of paper towel under it also, less flex but still the sandpaper itself will flex a little bit. That being said, I'd actually recommend using a waterstone/diamond plate/Norton Crystolon for convexing. This allows you to use more pressure without fear of rounding the apex and gives a greater degree of accuracy IMO.

Basically you'd just start grinding away at the shoulder where the primary and secondary (edge) grinds meet, it will still end up convex using a flat grinding surface as it's literally impossible to hold the same angle grinding freehand. You can get more or less curvature to the convex by simply rocking your hands more or less, which seems daunting but you really get a feel for it pretty quickly. Murray Carter has some great videos on grinding convex using waterstones on his youtube channel.

Thanks for your help I will certainly will look at the videos

We need 13 strips of bolo 13acon!

My vote is for ~.19" thick, convex grind, with a handle the same shape as the normal basic handle but oversized. In my opinion this would be the best bussekin blade for general use chopping and possibly the best out there, at least according to my criteria. Not as heavy as some but the quickness in hand, increased sharpness and decreased fatigue would more than make up for it. It would compete with other heavier blades in chopping wood but would also handle brush cutting and woody weed type duties well enough, which heavier thicker blades are not good at. When I go outside with a knife in hand I tend to want to be able to do a number of different jobs in one trip, from cutting weeds and blackberries, to chopping out saplings and small trees growing through fence lines. One tool that can do all chopping and slashing type jobs saves carrying multiple tools or making multiple trips. So from a user perspective with my particular needs I think this would be the best knife design I could come up with. Thanks to all for putting the time into designing such an exceptional tool. Sometimes a collective effort - when it involves a bunch of experts and real enthusiasts - can produce something really awesome.

We need a list of possible configurations to take a vote on I think. Once we all get a FINAL CONFIGURATION of thickness, grind, etc, things may move a bit more quickly.

:thumbup:Well said Brother!!! I for as long as I can remember have always wanted a Basic Grip Larger and Longer. I have large hands and all of the Res-C handles whether it was SYKW, SRKW or BC just seemed to small. I must say though that the SRKW-Bandicoot was perfect and for a long time I have regretted selling mine.

As I stated earlier, we NEED TO COME UP WITH A FINAL DECISION. I believe if we can , it will be easier for Jerry to acknowledge our request and start making the darnd things.

Every new suggestion just hurts the cause. Muddies the water.

We have pretty much established what we want, and we should roll with it.

Please remind me what we established that we want. I want satin INFI with Res-C, 13" or more, relatively thin, and priced similar to the B8.

Res c (extra long or oversize if possible), 13 inches plus, Bolo style, .19-.22 thick, most want no Choil (or at least the option), satin/BIG or similar finish preferably but not mandatory, and as soon as possible (but not too soon depending on pricing).

I think that about covers it.

I am with you preferably under .20 but if it has to be .22 so be it. I will say Big finish to keep cost down. Choil or not is ok with me. Edge I rather V but a lot of people like convex here so I am ok with that.

Only a compilation of the majority of desires here, best as I could recollect without looking through the whole thread.

My opinion? A .20 even is best, covers more bases of people's desires.

For refresher, the Bolo13 is all about the 13's with simply logical specifications for the masses:

13/64" = ~.20" MAXIMUM thickness coated, satin could be closer to .187" with coating/dimples/decarb gone. ;)

13 13/16" = ~13.8" blade length is a little longer than a 1311 with the recurve to lighten it a tad and increase chopping sweet spot maximization as well as scythe work.

Bolo shape sans choil for maximum brush clearing ability with no snags for function over very good form. A choil can always be added, but not removed and choking up on a near 14" blade might be a clue to pull out your edc already anyhow. ;)

Normal basic res-c handle preferred unless a bigger version is available, would prefer to see his actually made soon instead of an extended "two week" wait.

We are just trying to acquire the most useful lightweight, high performance chopper that can easily double for machete-like tasks without actually being a too thin to hold up to hard use. Simple, practical, tough and awesome! Kinda like this:

That's exactly what I'm looking for Tim. Thanks. I think the above is what EVERYONE should be rooting for.

Thanks again.
