Okay, here is my latest attempt, and this one is closer to scale than the Damascus comparison was. This is a plain-edge BT version, which hopefully gives us a good idea of what a production version might look like.

The more I experiment with the Baby Commander graphics, the more I want it to become a reality. I think it would sell like crazy. Hopefully Derek will like our combined efforts and let Ernie know that we're excited about the possibility of the Baby Commander being produced someday.
Once again, please realize that the entire idea here was to design a Baby Commander that would be suitable (legal) for airline travel (thus the CommandAir name), and also to create a defensive blade for carry in jurisdictions which require a sub-3" blade, and finally a blade for those who just prefer smaller blades for daily carry. I carry a 2000Commander BTS daily, and would actually prefer a larger Commander like the ES1-M for daily defensive purposes, but I'd also love to have a Baby Commander (CommandAir) for daily back-up on my weak side as a supplement to my full size Commander on my strong side, and last but not least, I'd especially like to have one primarily for airline travel. I train with my Commander, so a smaller version of it just seems so natural for travel. I would no longer have that feeling of "something is missing" everytime I fly the friendly skies. Your daily carry knife is an extension of you, so let's downsize it just enough to make it legal for air travel and restrictive jurisdictions so that we never have to feel.. ..Emerson-less, for lack of a better word.

Now, this "Command Air" I like! Of course as one of the few who prefer smaller knives I'm in the minority, but I'd be a buyer of this one!

My guess is that David T also would like the smaller version, so there's two sales right there!

Yup, count me in. I'm a big fan of small knives. Actually...hey, wait a minute, wasn't this mini commander thing my idea.

BTW, yes, this was absolutely David's idea. I'm sure that a few of us have entertained the notion of a Baby Commander a time or two, but his photo rendering of it inspired me enough to generate a few different variations of the theme. I'm just glad that David said something to the effect of "Yes, your version is exactly what I'm after, Eric." That, in combination with John Hollister's nod was all the motivation I needed to continue in this direction. It feels right to me, and since it also feels right to the other Commander fans in here, I certainly feel that we're onto something great.
Sooooo,....let's see,.....
David thought of it and did the initial rendering...
I've done two fairly detailed renderings...
John said that he'd do the drawings,....
Now WHO is gonna build it???

I wonder if Bill or Kevin can get this done . . . . Hmmmmmmmm

Well, until we find someone interested in taking on this project, perhaps David would like to entertain us by telling his "slashed leather office chair" story. I for one would like to hear it. Commander mishaps that don't result in too much blood loss are usually pretty funny tales. How 'bout it, David?

Hmmm...this might be the start of an altogether different thread. I'll start a new thread with a story of my own.

OK here are the sketches.

The regrind as shown will put the blade length at about 2.95"

Nice job, John. Looks like it will certainly work. All essential curves and lines in tact. Good deal.

That looks great! I want one!! John - with regard to Kevin (don't know if you've talked to him already or not), I've been emailing him for modifications to my SOCFK, and he tells me he's got a 3 to 4 week backlog of work. So, if he takes it on, the donor might have a bit of a wait before it comes back...

Chris

I haven't heard from Kevin yet, but I re-emailed Bill with the sketches to see what he thought.

Hey, even if I have to wait, that's fine. I'm a patient kind o' guy.

John

LOL true, true. And if this little baby comes to life, it'll be worth it.

Speaking of "worth it", I have a quick question regarding airlines and knives. Now, I live in Beantown, so y'all might not know the regs here, but I was curious anyway. What IS the "normal" stance on bringing a knife on a plane? I'd love to carry my SOCFK on trips out of town, but I'm not willing to risk an overzealous security guard taking it away with that "hey - a new gift for me" look in his/her eyes. I've heard all of you mentioning you'd love a knife that was "safe" for airline travel, and I was just curious what the limits were.

Thanks!

OK, the deal is on. Bill is willing to take on the re-grinding of the blade. I have to talk to Kevin about re-working the body and we're in business.

John Hollister, man of action. Damn, from pipedream to production in less than 24 hours. Frightening.
Let's see,...if you, David, and I worked for Ernie, we could probably get custom delivery down to "If it's not on your doorstep in 30 minutes or less, it's free."
