Baby Commander (CommandAir) project continues.

John,

That looks GOOD!! Perhaps Derek can convince Ernie to make these in his new full time role. Perhaps you can Mr Moderator....there seems to be the interest.

Regards,

Ed

Eric,

If you, John & I went to work for Emerson, trust me, we would get NO customs out. They would all wind up in our own collections.

OK, maybe one or two would get out. That's only because we'll have too many of that particular model.

I want I want I want.... but what if your particular Commander has black or green T? Can Bill reapply, or, like one of John's, the "T" on the bevels is completely removed, leaving it only on the non-edge portion of the blade?

Like with the Rhino, the cost of the job will include refinishing. Bill can either Beadblast the blade like on the "Pirela Commander" he did for me or he can apply a Black Teflon finish.

David and Eric . . . What!? ME!?

Between the Holidays and computer problems I have been out of touch for a couple of days.
Now for this project:
I do not have a Commander to look at at the moment so it's hard to know for sure if this is possible, the only thing that could cause a problem that I can think of is the cut in the liner for the lock, all removed materal would need to be from the back of the knife, and still leave enough materal to sustain a solid lock.
Guys look at your Commanders or possible Commandair's and see if there is enough materal at the back of your knife to remove and still retain a solid lock.

Good point, didn't think of that.

The cut for the liner lock goes to right at the far edge of the rescess for the middle scale screw.

Note: There were holes to terminate the liner cut in the first 700 or so Commanders made. This is one of them (this one was already apart and I was too lazy to take another one apart). The red line shows how far the cuts in my 2000 Commanders go.

Whatcha think?

I just took a Commander apart and looked at it real carefully. I'm no rocket scientist, but I believe this is going to work just fine.
It's great to see so many people interested in this CommandAir project. Very cool.

BTW, John, I responded to the e-mail you sent me. Sorry it took so long. Hectic holidays and all. Let me know if you got my reply.

Eric

Okay John, break it to us. How much are these CommandAir modifications going to cost us? It looks like there's maybe 25-30 of us interested, so can we get group rates, or what??!
Or should we all just break down and beg and plead and grovel to Ernie? Maybe he'll find it in his heart to put the CommandAir into production. I personally am not ashamed to beg for something as cool as this.

Dear Erine,

Please consider this a begging request for an Air Commander.

Regards with tears,

Ed

if you build it...they will come....and buy...hehehe

Yup, I'd gladly buy one too if it was available....

Okay, that's 3 begs. Now we just need some pleads and grovels. Hmmmm,...you would think that plead and grovel would be in the "smiles legend" but they're not. You'll just have to take my word for it; I'm pleading. Majorly pleading. It's pathetic. I'm not sniveling yet, but almost. Please give us production CommandAirs, Ernie. We'll be good. I don't live far from EKI, so I could gladly clean your office and shop on weekends. (Would this be a great way to gain dumpster access or what, David?!)

If I had access to the shop I would forget about the dumpster. I would more interested in the stuff inside the shop.

Well....nah, I would still check the dumpster just incase.

You never know.

OK, I'm in for two. One for me, one for a buddy. As soon as I get the final nod from Bill and Kevin, the knives will be on the way to Bill for grinding.

John

John,

Amother excellent job by yourself, keep us all informed so that we can all order one (or more) as well.

All MUST go well because there are many of us who NEED CommandAirs! I'm just glad that yours are first, John. Not only do you deserve to be first, but I figure all of the bugs will be worked out by the time I order mine.
