Back by Popular Demand... What folder do you guys carry?

My EDC , Emerson sheepdog , ball bearing pivot and a flipper , smoothest Emerson I own ( other than my iron dragon ) , supper grippy g10 scales , sorry I am an Emerson fanboy . 100% American made 👍

Finally here are my folder EEC (every evening carry which I alternate plus that little pooch as my avatar!):

Nice! The Manix 2 XL is a beast! I still personally prefer the PM2, but the Manix is a close second because of the leaf shape blade and ambidextrous lock.

One day I'll own an Emerson. I passed on a nice CQC-7 with tan scales for some stupid reason.

Standard: The PM-2 was definitely sharper out of the box than the Manix 2 XL. These two are relatively new as you can tell by their appearances and even their production dates according to the Alphabetical sequences on their boxes were: 12/2015 and 1/2016 respectively. I used to have a Manix prior to the XL version, but I had to send it back because the blade was not centered and had a bit of a wiggle which I was not satisfied with. Before I upped my game on more expensive blades, I had a few Chinese assembled Spydies such as the Tenacious and the Resilience; plus the Ontario Rat I & II. All fine blades within that cheaper entry level and less expensive folder price paradigm. I have since gifted all those to my Brother and adult Sons.

I would love to spread my wings to the more fancy and more intricate folders like CR Sebenza (Justin is an authority on those so don't hesitate to seek his counsel on the Benz!) but my nuttiness is first and foremost on fixed blade so I am able to exercise some self discipline and restraint when it comes to much higher end folders. The Manix 2 XL fits my (almost) size 9 hands very well. As you have noted, it is a very stout folder and I would have no problem to carry this as a complement knife to a larger fixed blade if I go on a multi day wilderness excursion. It is really that capable and can handle a beating and still keep on ticking ;)

It's tough to make that plunge on a $200+ dollar folder unless you find a smoking deal. I'm already tempted to sell my SNG to fund another one already, but I'm fighting the urge.
I'm with you 100% on being nutty about fixed blades! They're way more capable and obviously stronger, but it is nice to have a beefy folder that'll do some of the light tasks and be concealable.

The nicer and more expensive Sebenzas are definitely a better way to accessorize oneself and also a better "investment". After all, some of us care what brand of smartphone we use, what shoes we were, what watch, etc. A very nice and sought after folder can also become a part of the family heirloom and something to pass down.

A fixed blade is quite different though as it must absolutely be able to be used at a tool. If my life depends on it, I have enough savvy and know how to build a shelter with a stout tool like a GSO but if I had something like a Mora, I personally will not be able to, although some very few really skilled people can even muster a tool out
of nothing but rocks and stones!

I will save you money! Buy once cry once as they say!

There is a guy here on this sub forum who has been carrying the same Sebenza for 18 years and is confident it will outlast him.

For what you spent on Spyderco you could have already bought the last folder you will ever want. If you prefer a larger size go large 21 or 25. Smaller go small 21 or Inkosi. There are threads of people doing such abusive things to Sebenzas that I can't even watch it's so horrific and they look no worse for the wear. I doubt you will ever want your Spydies again after you EDC a CRK. Like a GSO to a dime store sharpened $4.99 special in wire bins left for you to impulse buy.

LOL! I hadn't realized the Spydies were that cheaply made!

OK Sir, I will try a few models at Plaza the next time I'm up in OC California and then I will try to score one here on the Exchanges. I'm sure that you have some footprint on there and you can try to save me from myself ;)

Haha you aren't kidding about the "buy once, cry once" analogy!!
That's where I'm at with Survive! as a brand. I have gone through 60+ fixed blades before I stumbled across the GSO lineup, and now I only have 2.
As for folders, I don't even want to talk about how much money I've wasted throughout the last 20 years. I'm finally happy with the SNG as a knife so I just bought another one that is "more specialer" than the one I have.
As for the CRK, I'm already saving up and I think I'll be heading down to Plaza to do some window shopping. I like the looks of the non-inlayed knives, but I'm weary about them being to smooth for my grubby construction worker hands.

I might be exaggerating slightly during that analogy.

I'll steer you right on the exchange when the time comes. :)

Before you go nuts on the Strider at least try a Hinderer and CRK. They will likely make you want to sell your Striders. Sounds like you have already been down that road more than 100 times 😇.

Personally I find the blasted titanium is more than sufficient. It's enough for almost any use. Sebenza can be translated to mean work. It's a knife designed to be used. Complaints it's too smooth are few and far between. I prefer the micarta inlay as it fills my hand perfectly and can withstand abuse. But I have more without inlay than I do with in my EDC rotation.

Justin, I don't mind a few mild embellishments here and there ;)

Standard. OT: HI have lots of fond memories from your neck of the woods when I was in the high line auto business from mid 90's to 2004. The Manheim Auction (Riverside Auto Auction) was one of the main fishing holes ;)

I'll definitely try a Sebenza out because of all of the amazing stuff I've heard and read about them. I can't say that I'm impressed with the other company that you suggested though. I can't back a company that has an owner that bashes their clients.
It's great to hear that the titanium slabs have plenty of grip to them on the CRK's. The more I look at the 25, the more I'm sold on it. I might have to get one and see if I can send it in to have dual thumb studs put on it.

Oh I know that place well! I used to do a ton of locksmith work out there back in the early 2000's. You'd be surprised how many cars showed up without any keys.

I don't own a Hinderer anymore nor would I buy another either. But do prefer said product to Strider by far.

If you look into the morality of the owner of the company you support through purchases, you are NOT going to like the stolen valour aspect of Strider. Not sure if you are aware.

All Sebenza 25s come with dual thumbstuds.

Yeah I used to have an issue with Striders past until I found out that he had supplied a few of my friends that are stationed at Mira Mar with knives. It was a tough judgement call to make still.
For some reason I thought they were only single thumb studded unless they were special order. Being double lugged is a win-win!!

MCAS Miramar? If so I didn't know he gave knives out. That's some good PR for him. Another win-win.

Bringing up bad ethics on here can become a very slippery slope, fast!!!.

I myself am guilty of having done so in another thread by mentioning the BRKT owner and DPx owner, so apologies are in order if I had offended anyone. I don't personally know either gent and my decision not do business was primarily based on some of their products I had fondled and sampled but never ended up owning. One thing we can all seem to agree on though, the guy named Guy who supplies us with these great GSO tools seems to be cut from a different cloth than some others in his industry. Therefore this Guy ought to be supported ;)
