Thanks guys. It's just not for me. Quality knife just not my style. It'll likely be in the FS section tomorrow

I finally held a griptillian and a mini grip. I didn't cut but they felt very cheaply made. The scales felt like a cheap china made Walmart knife to me. As well as the action. I played with two of each and they felt like they had a lot of drag and a bit of grit in them. Is that normal? These were just first out of the box experiences, like I said I didn't use it and don't want to bash the knife. I'm just wondering if anyone else felt this way?

They do feel cheap. More so the full size than the mini in my experience. I had a full size with a S30V sheepsfoot blade and sold it because it felt like crap to me. Apparently if you get the aftermarket scales they're better but at that point you're into a higher bracket of knife.

I guess I'm not the only one feeling that way! I haven't handled an m390 version, but after a handle swap you're getting near the $200+ mark and that could buy a higher end ZT or Spyderco. Add another $100 to that and you can probably find a lightly used CRK or Strider.

These were both s30v models. I guess all the good I heard just let my mind make its self up before I handled it. Then in hand it was a huge let down. Especially for the $140/ 120 price range. All my spydies in s30v were in that range and had nice grippy g10

I have a few different folders, I've had the sprint Elmax pm2, spyderco Southard, superblue endura, zt 560, and a few skylines. I feel like the grip holds its own with any of the knives mentioned. Of course after $100 custom scales. Which puts it at the higher end of what folders I've had.

The cheap, hollow feel of the big grip handle has always bothered me too. A good alternative are the Applied Weapons Technology aftermarket scales. For an aluminum scale they feel surprisingly grippy and if you watch their website you can sometimes snag a set of blems for $50. It's worth a look if you like grips but hate the "echo", lol.

The only thing that attracts me to the Ritter Griptilian is the great steel and the flat grind opposed to the really thin hollow grind on the two that I had. I've always had a fear of hollow grinds though.

Thanks for the pointer hack! Welcome to the Survive forum.

I'll add to the spyderco (and PM2) love since it's what I have on me today. Given all the hype I didn't like it all that much when I got it but it is growing on me.

How do you like that CTS blade?

Hard to say.

Of all my spyderco blades this one was the roughest from the factory. It felt gritty and the blade wasn't centered. Taking it apart, cleaning and flitzing it fixed the grittiness and centering issue.

I managed to chip the very tip of the blade off and it was shockingly easy to reprofile and fix. Feels comparable to m390 though this was easier to sharpen, but that could be because of the blade geometry. My M390 blade is a benchmade contigo.

I'm not super hard on my folders (I work in an office) so I'm not the best judge of wear resistance, but it's a nice steel.

I'm wondering if they had issues with that 204p steel. The one I used to have had a nasty round blemish under the logo and it was really rough also.

That big ol thumb print looking thing is the spot.
