back from my trip (pic heavy)

Nice pics! looks like you had a helluva time.

Yeah, cotton kills, but I'm guessing it was your 'friend' who had to fear for his/her life! :)

Awesome John!! Great pics.

Is that a GI Alice pack w/o the frame?

Sorry bout the pants. That had to suck, but you came through.

Good way you overcame the problem Bro----

What did your friends throw on the fire that caught your Jeans on fire??

Where was that - in the Catskills somewhere?

I've never participated in the "Brotherhood of the Flaming Pants," but I had a friend do that to not one, but TWO pairs of shoes once - simultaneously.

Is that a Snow Peak mess kit in the cocoa picture? I have the aluminum version. I'm still tring to decide if I prefer it to my other messware.

I wonder if your pants got wet due to having cotton underneath a waterproof shell?

This could trap body moisture inside. I know it was just an over nighter and you survived just fine. I use 3 layers a wicking layer (removes moisture off of body) another layer for warmth and then a shell to prevent moisture from coming in.

It is awesome you went out for the night!

Great pics - Bear Gryls is the first thing that came to mind with you standing there with no pants on :)

John, It looks like a great time. I hope your friends recieved a stern lecture about campfire safety.

THanks for the great comments everyone. I'll try to answer all the comments...
Psy ops it definitely wasn't internal moisture.. while I worked hard most of the day dragging wood I was pretty aware of my temp, as I didn't want to work up a sweat...

the accelerant was something I never saw it was a paste type thing called fire ribbon..which the guy would throw in clumps on the fire.

Foilist, I believe it was a snow peak set up..it wasnt mine mine is the generic canteen cup next to it..Also the location was Dutch Doctor mountain in Harriman state park. NYS.

J.. it is an Alice pack but with the frame..its my favorite multi day bag..Got it in trade with a fellow forum member.

It was a good time... I've gotten away with wearing jeans in the woods my whole life...but am now looking at wool and synthetic alternatives...

Thanks again boys,,wish you all could have been there.

rock on spooky!

Thanks for the pics, Riley, I'm jealous. Thank goodness you had long johns on :D

Speaking of "cotton kills", anyone know of a good deal on wool or synthetic pants for woods-bumming?

Looks like you had a great time, thanks for sharing. what sort of boots are you wearing, they look good.
