back from my trip (pic heavy)

Riley, you have to love the irony here...the guy who makes videos on bushcraft skills goes camping in the snow wearing cotton jeans and because they got wet (surprise) has to dry them by the fire, but they catch on fire due to somebody using accelerant. Hmmm.

Dude - You posted a picture of yerself in yer drawers!

Looks like you had a great time out. Mishaps like that provide double training. First, what not to do next time, and second, how to improvise a repair. I've been looking at getting a pair of those same Swedish wool pants but I'll have to find a source with them in "muy grande."

I've never backpacked anywhere where there were shelters like that provided although I hear a lot of places have them. (especially back east)

awesome pics John .... that's pretty funny about your pants, you're lucky they were'nt synthetic, they would have melted right to your skin... denim makes great char cloth...:o

Thanks guys... I figured the cotton would be ok being I had rain gear ontop....My wife got me rain gear for christmas.when I consulted the box when I got home I read the packaging and discovered the pants are only water resistant...so trapsing around in the snow for 6 hours didn't do me any favors....(those where my favorite jeans too) as far as the fire gel goes.. I had nothing to do with it..to me it doesn't make sense to put gel on a roaring fire...regardless I'm getting new rain pants. and won't be wearing jeans again.
Theo, it's the dutch doctor shelter on the southern map.
My boots are Northface baltorro 400's (another gift from the wife)
about the wool pants, My apologies I didnt read the sizes.

The Dutch Doctor is one of the cleaner sites, but the last time I visited it there was a large tree behind the shelter that some boneheads tried to fell and instead it got caught up leaning against some other trees. Is that still there or did you take care of it?

there appears to be a huge oak stump wedged between the for of another tree about 20 ft to the right of the shelter (if you are facing it) I tried to get it out but it's stuck in there pretty good.

Stickman, Sorry to disappoint brother... No-body's perfect. especially me...just ask my wife :)

Hey Hotpants! Thanks for sharing.
Love the 'Hawk. I've been wondering about them as a tool. I know they are cool to look at but are they as good as a hatchet or an axe?

I like the hawk... it has a longer handle than my hatchet and I can get a good swing that enables it to bite really deep...it sticks a bit more than a hatchet but it wasn't enough to be a bother...I needed to reprofile the edge at first.. but its a great little tool especially for the price.

Thanks for the reply john, iv been thinking of getting sme north face boots would you reccomend them.

John,

looks like a good get away.

ryan

thanks for sharing the experience and great job on posting the pics

Riley, no disappointment at all sir, my comments were only reflecting on the humor of the situation. I actually appreciate your videos and that you take the time to make them, so I hope my kidding wasn't taken the wrong way :-)

Stickman No worries brother....I shoulda known better... and I always value your comments.

Bondy..I absolutely would reccomend themthey are to date I think the best boots I have..and probably the most expensive piece of kit I own.

Thanks for all the great comments guys.. Now that I can actually post pics... I'll try to do so more often.
