Back to Empire!

Charlie, I just had to chime in again. Last night I saw your photos on my phone and I posted from there, today I'm looking on my computer screen, and WOW, your display is amazing. I like yours even better than the historic photo, you have a less cramped knife arrangement, and greater diversity with the straight-edge razor, scissors, and the knife with the saw. Those details are nice to see.

On the B&W photo: is that a cotton sampler in the middle? If so, was the front edge sharpened, or just the bottom edge?

Robb that photo is a copy of a very old document, and is not very clear, but I think that is a Rope knife. Wish I had one - it would Crown my display!!

I know this has already been said, But.......................

WOW! That's Cool.

Oh, a rope knife. I wouldn't have thought of that without a marlinspike, but now that I know it makes perfect sense for that blade profile!

I'm glad you folks are enjoying this. It is gratifying to have it shown and appreciated, after its years in progress.
Thanks for the comments!

I truly admire the display of knives, but even more than that, the commitment and focus to put together a meaningful collection rather than just a pile of knives:thumbup:

I wish I had the discipline:o Maybe someday...

Great work. All I can say is; I know a labor of love when I see one.

That's an incredible display you have there Charlie. Must have been quite the labor of love.

Thanks for the recognition guys!

I'd like to give credit to my friend Tom who started this project right in Winsted CT, then handed it off to me, to bring it the next giant step.
And I am hoping it will culminate in a good read, because compiling and sketching out the Empire Story is one of my retirement projects.

Should we call you Sir Charles, now? Surely that display is worth a knighthood, at the very least!

Charlie, how bout a picture of it set on the table at the show? You know,so we can live vicariously through you ;)

You guys are being silly!
But I will try and send a pic from the show!!
I am hoping they have Wireless Internet this year!
Good Knight!:D

Charlie,

Just wanted to add to the thread here that you really out did yourself on this fabulous Empire display. About 17 - 18 years ago a friend of mine and myself put together a much smaller Case Tested--Case XX display for the local West Palm Beach Knife show but nothing even approaching what you've accomplished with this one.. If you don't win Best of Show--Empire Display, or some such, I'd be amazed. Your attention to detail is amazing!

Just a dumb question I suppose, but are you(I hope) going to show the side by side of the old 1858 document display and your knife display at the Eugene show??. If so I think you've got it and cannot be beat!

Best Always,
Anthony

Yes, Anthony, I'll have a picture of the real old display along with mine, and a bit of History on a couple of posters.
Did you know, the real display still exists?
The widow of the collector who purchased it many years ago, who cannot be named, still has it, minus a few knives. I've never seen it, but hope springs eternal.
