I love my Valley Forge, haven't seen anyone else with one on here though. Mine might have had a punch, but the blade is a toothpick and sharpened down. I sharpened it years ago so I might not have realized it to be an awl.
This punch is very close to the punch that you had put on the #15 harness jacks (spear mains). As I am not fixing saddles regularly, or ever, the punch on the #15 is the most useful for me. It is in fact a true utility blade. Flat and sharp, so it can be used as a wharnie or sheepsfoot is, it can be used to pick at stuff, it is a great letter opner, endless. Please do this type of punch again. It is my favorite of all the varieties you've commisioned. Thank you for your efforts.
Josh
Looks like a very useful version of the punch blade, Charlie! Should be good for scraping, pricking, splinter removal, and striking a ferro rod for fire starting (which I hate using my freshly sharpened blade for!). Also good for getting into those really tight spots and might even work as an ice pick (if you're careful!). It looks to be a little more durable than the forged style punch to boot!
Glennbad- i forgot to mention how much i liked the pics, well really the punch, in your post. i think they do help to lend some perspective to what Charlie is looking at, even if as you said it'll be reversed. it's like a European style punch on some of the utility knives, usually three-bladers, sometimes more, that i've been sussing around for; the Hubertus web-site has an example, fleabay has a nice looking vintage Mann 3-blade in stag example, and something similar was (IIRC) shown in the thread prior to the blade shape poll.
thanks, Neal
