Back to the Forum Knife - Handles only

I was going to link to the green jigged bone on bottom that Todd Davison did for JPrime. That jigged pattern/randomness and color is sexy. (yeah I said it :o )

vibrant colors preferred over browns and tans.

:D I do tend to prefer irregular jigging patterns compared to highly structured ones. I prefer a dye color that really allows the bone to show its depth.

I don't care too much about the exact pattern or type of jigging, but much prefer a random type of look. The jigging on the lick creek would look nice:thumbup:
I also like the pattern on this one: (it is with me today actually!)

As for the pattern, I prefer the random, scattered look like on the rope knife. Makes each knife different if you look close enough.

As for the color, I'm over the usual antique yellow, amber, rust, etc. I'd like to see something else for a change. I like the green on the knife Ed posted...

The diamond trapper jack peach seed jigging is one of my favorites.

I also love the corn cob style jigging Canal St used on the bottom right stockman.

Nice picture r8shell of the jigging on the rope knife! I do like the random jigging pattern. I am with cbr1000--the burnt orange color bone like from Charlie's 98 with the rope knife style jigging would be just wonderful imo. Lloyd

If I knew how , I would bring up and post Primbles's pictures of an Old Cattaraugus shown on Post No. 415 on Page No. 21 of the Antique Cattaraugus Knives thread. IMO that is the definition of Jigging. I also prefer to have the Worm Groove too , but I can understand that some people do not . I much prefer the Smooth Oiled Bone over some of the atrocious jigging that I have seen on some of the newer knives.

Worm groove can look horrible when not done right, but when done right, it's awesome. I have the utmost confidence in GEC pulling it off. Their jigging far surpasses all other production knife companies. GEC's "Grizzly" jigging (like a grizzly had a go at it) would be another excellent choice and would satisfy those looking for a somewhat random aggressive pattern.

That one is beautiful. He also posted another beauty on the last page. Jigging like either of those would convince me to overcome my reluctance to purchase a harness jack.

Can I make a suggestion that we do not do smooth oiled bone? I love it but I just see an awl/punch with a smooth handle being a recipe for disaster.

Here you go.

Thank you Robb ! :thumbup::)

Unsatisfied with all previous pics of this knife, I took some new pics this morning of my Cattaraugus Swell End Jack Knife, model 22479, pre WWII:
I think I finally captured the exact color of this one.
There is a faint etch on the blade that says "The Reading Railroad" :

I really like worm groove if it is done right. Sometimes it can look unauthentic if too uniform and patterned. The Catt posted above is a wonderful example. I also like corn cob but the bone color makes all the difference with corn cob jigging, it seems to work better with darker bone.

I do like the jigging on my Soddie Jr, but I can understand it may be too busy for some.

I love the jigging on my #72 as well. Simple and beautiful...

Smooth oiled bone will always be my preference, but if we have to do jigging, I'd vote either random jigging like the rope knives or I'd like to see some of gec examples of the worm groove

Another vote for random but with a twist, my #1 choice would be random like this.......

I do not mind of how the handles will look and if plain or jigged, bone or micarta, etc... as long as there will be one on each side!
