Back up knife, hand tooled, WIP. Pic's bonanza.Done!!!

I'm gonna let this project sit for a couple of days. The only major thing left fixing is the back of the guard that feels a tad bulky.

You, Sir, are TENACIOUS with that toolset.
I tip my hat to you.

That is a stark, no-nonsense bad-boy right there.

Exuding planing, cleaning up etc. I think about 180 hours of tooling. :)

Thank U guys. Encouragement like that really makes me happy. :)

The knife now has a razors edge. I trimmed my beard whit it this morning.

This is how i do the edge on my carving knives. An edge which i find sharp, durable and easy to maintain.

After HT the blade had about an 0,2mm edge at 22 deg. I made a 3mm high secondary bevel at 23deg. So that a rough edge (whit a thickness hardly visible) formed. Then I do something a named "Power stropping". I use and keep on adding a pretty coarse polishing compound. I bench mount a leather belt on a board. And then i putt the scandigrind flat on the belt and ad a liberal amount of force moving the blade back first. I do this for maybe 2 hours until the secondary edge is gone and the primary edge shaves whit ease. Then i turn the belt skin side up and do another 10 minutes whit only oil.

Tip of the edge cleaned of for inspection.

Finished edge. The streaks on the edge is oil from the stropping which i did not see when i took the picture.

Peppin - You managed to fashion a very nice knife with the barest of tools, and even canola oil for the polishing. That is quite an accomplishment..... WELL DONE!!

Thanks for keeping us posted.

You are a man on a mission :)

I bought it as G-10/Jade from a local knife making store. But it would not surprise me if they have mixed it up. Quality control is not one of their strength. :)

Tanks for the kind words. Bigblue 17 you got some serious hawk eyes spotting that it was canola oil that I used to lubricate the strop for polishing. :)

I have to say, seeing the end result after all of the polishing and finishing is done, you are really learning to master those hand tools.

A couple of critiques, from a purely aesthetic standpoint:
The handle is too straight, for me.
The butt is too square.
I like the pin placement and the way the G10 looks with the brass.
The guard is excellent and very well executed.
The blade geometry is unusual, but I like it a lot.

It looks better than a lot of first knives I've seen and I think you did a good job.

Man that is beautiful. Love the whole knife. I would of never seen that end result coming from the start. WOW. love the ghost jade. that has got to be my fave color of g10. And the brass is way cool. I love brass and copper parts on knives.
