Thar she blows. Nothing else mentioned so far is as versatile, capable, and suited for the OPs intended purpose.

The ability to hold an edge, the way its grind cuts, the rust proof-ness, the strength, blister fighting handle, and excellently slim and lightweight sheath make the F1 king imho.

Just to provide some resolution to this thread, I ended up picking up a Mora Bushcraft Triflex. I really wanted to go for the Fallkniven F1, but I just couldn't justify it for how much I'll use the knife.

That said, any tips on a sheath for this knife? I'm not sure how much I trust the one it came with, and really don't want to slice my hand open dozens of miles from medical attention.

You could also get a custom leather or kydex sheath made for it (but it'll cost more than the knife). There are people on the forum who can help you out there, if you so choose.

Forget the folder. Dont buy an esee, or anything else. Get a decent SAK or Leatherman, and a Fallkniven F1. Nothing is as capable or strong for the size and weight. You can get all the opinions you want, but when it comes to real world, wet or bloody or cold hands, tired, or even survival, nothing I've seen beats the f1, not bark river, or esee or any of the rest. its sheer ability to push through wood like butter and make tinder is worth packing it alone. Other knives look sexier or more ninja, and may have better warranties, but when the rubber meets the road, you'll want the F1. It's the one to get, hands down.

Well, I'll just say I disagree. The F1 is a good knife, but it's not the "one". Not for me, anyways. ;)

Wow that seems like a fantasy trip, i live in a city as well and me and a friend plan on hiking the john muir trail in the spring.

I really think you should have gone with the ESEE-3 i have spent alot of time oudoors, and that is one of the 3 knives im taking with me when i go (other two are becker bk9 and a folder)

If your set with the mor tho i reccomend a kydex sheath, you can probably pick one up at a very reasonable price right here on the forums.
