Bad Kershaw. Bad!

saddening to hear its a chinese made knife. I would have thought it would be an american made knife

One thing to keep in mind, these knives will probably make KAI more money than all their LE sales combined, so I don't fault them for doing it.

I agree with that! It's a nice looking knife and will probably appeal to a lot of people. 30 years ago I would have bought it instead of the Kmart Sharp that I still have and still cuts. Kai seems to be doing okay with their business decisions.

Yup, and given the pedigree I doubt it will be poorly made.

Even though its not something I'd buy, kershaw tends to know how to heat treat very well. So I'd bet that for a cheap little folder competing with the other bubble packs at Walmart this one will hold an edge better and cut better than the others. Not for me but still even the cheap Kershaw's I've had were good knives.

Well yeah, the awful Duck Commander medallion inlayed into is the deal breaker. But without that, I think it's a well designed knife. Very Tim Galyean-esque.

Yep, as soon as I saw that stupid medallion on there I knew I wouldn't be buying one of these even if they cost $20 and had an Elmax blade.

Hyperbole. If it was $20 and had an Elmax blade, I'd buy it even if it said, in big letters, "Preparation H Lifetime User Award."

Just pointing out-- the DC Rayne, the Kershaw with the Duck Commander medallion, uses 8Cr13MoV.

THESE guys use 3Cr13.

Is it ok with you if people are disappointed in the marketing of one of their favorite brands and they use a chat forum to discuss it?

Yet again, not every knife is designed for the high end collector. These knives are obviously designed as entry level knives. In case you are not aware, a production knife company like Kershaw does quite a lot of business through big box stores.

Great point. KAI has ZT for the hard users, collectors, steel enthusiasts... and Kershaw for your every-day users, it seems. I'm willing to bet they make more sales through Kershaw than ZT, and even though they make less per sale, if they make more sales, that would easily translate into more profit.

No, it's not hyperbole, I f*cking DESPISE Duck Dynasty and all their related crap, and I will not own anything with that logo, PERIOD, no matter what it's made of. Make it out of solid gold and I'd be finding a gold dealer to sell it to, certainly wouldn't allow it to remain in my household.

Full disclaimer: I've never seen an episode of Duck Dynasty. I know what it is about through previews about upcoming episodes when I watch cable at my grandmother's house, when I visit her, as I don't have cable myself. I've seen wall posters for sale with the dudes' faces on them.

I have no doubt it is somewhat insulting to Southerners (I assume they're Southern, sadly, forgive me if that is incorrect) and perhaps even to Midwestern hunter/farmer types, such as some in my family.

I have no plans to ever watch the show and, like you, don't want to own anything "Duck" related either.

Having said all of that, from what I understand about the show (and I could be wrong, it is reality TV after all) the family built up a successful business from the ground up, and has made good money at it.... that's sort of admirable on its own, no? They're certainly cashing in, in what we may find slightly distasteful or unnecessary ways but, all other things aside, I hope they at least used some good old hard work to build this successful business?

I saw a preview some weeks back for some family (all I remember, sadly, is a fat, loud Southern-sounding lady) who suddenly struck oil in her/their backyard and now they've made a show about how they came into all that money. Talk about Y-I-K-E-S.

So has anyone here talking about how crappy this steel is ever owned a kershaw with the 3cr? Just curious because it isnt as bad as everyone is saying. I bought one at Christmas for my buddy and he loves it. It is by no means a "super steel" but it gets the job done. I sharpen it up for him every couple of weeks and it will get stupid sharp. And it keeps a decent working edge too.

Kershaw does a great job on mediocre steels. With china steel I wouldnt worry about the alphabet names who knows what it really is lol
