Agreed to buy a lefty NICA from Scott Dog Scott Dog . Told me was mine in the messages. I asked him if her had any other lefties he wanted to sell as well. He said he did. In order to speed up the conversation we texted. Below of the text chain. It was a great conversation I agreed to buy 2 knives from him and maybe a 3rd if he had box and papers. Then all of a sudden he stopped responding. A few hours later I messaged him again, and he told me he already sold the lefty NICA. Super scumbag move.

I don’t think what he did was right.. but if I were you I would’ve paid for knives as I settled up on each. I don’t know how much time was spent looking for other knives you wanted to buy, but if he’s got multiple people messaging him he’s probably just going to commit individually when people are ready to buy and the cash is in hand. Looked to me like you were running a tab and he got frustrated. Again, not good business, but settling up faster might land you the knife you want with these folks.

I offered him that right away see screen shots from blade forums messenger.

Edited: Wait hang on did you commit and then ask for more pics? That’ll kill a deal.
I already said I would take it, so me noticing screw was missing was not a big deal. He also confirmed the total amount we were at, so don’t use that part of the conversation as an out.

Not “using it as an out”, buddy.. but if you commit to a knife and then say you want more pics to be sure, it doesn’t seem like a sold knife to me.

I wasn’t contingent, where did I say that? I already agreed to take it, and he agreed to sell it. But keep digging buddy, I know you’ll find some other excuse. Seems to be your MO since the beginning of this post.

You’re really blowing this out of context. You want a mob to take this guy on, you won’t get it from me. I was just explaining to you how it looked when you said “I’ll take it” followed by a request for more pics. He probably thought you were starting to flake out.

“Okay Smokey it’s yours.”

I’m unclear how that isn’t an acknowledgement that Smokey should have every reason to think it’s his to buy- or at the very least have the right of first refusal.

I can recall one deal I was working where the seller was out of town and I was going to buy it with the clear understanding contingent upon the seller confirming something for me when he was back home. He informed me someone was interested in buying it non-contingent, but it was mine if I wanted to buy it under the same terms.

I am hoping to hear from Scott. He is an old and respected CRK collector(can't say how he is as a seller). He has been missing so long Ithought he was likely dead.
However for now I can see k of the C's point. Asking for photos after agreeing to buy can essily be interpreted ( or misinterpreted) as still deciding, even if that was not the intention. When I have done this I state very clearly that the photo will not change my decission.
You asked for a photo to to be sure the lockside hardware was good. What happens if you decided it was not?
Any way no money changed hands and that is the definative claim.
At this time I am guessing this was a communication break down, but further info is needed.
His thread was a bit unorganized

  1. If a deal did not happen, there is no iTrader Feedback to leave. Sorry if you were inconvenienced, but life is full of disappointments. As long as you're not out any items or money hasn't changed hands, move along. Consider improving the terms of your sales threads / read the sellers terms carefully in order to avoid this before buying.
  2. Retaliatory feedback left by buyers or sellers on deals that didn't take place can now earn you a 30 point non expiring infraction. You earn them, you get to keep them, you have been warned.

I think the text messages threw him off. You ask first about the NICA Sebenza, then ask about the carbon fiber 25, and your next message says “I’ll pass on those 2. Any others?” (It took me a couple times reading this to see that you were taking about passing on the CF25 and Ti Inkosi, not the NICA)

At this point the discussion goes into the Green Beret and Wilson Combat knife so the shopping continues and I’m guessing he took the other hard offer/claim for the single NICA knife. It sucks and it’s a crappy situation but I can see the miscommunication within the text discussion and it’s not the first time something like this has happened in the sales forum.

We had a deal, just no money traded hands yet. It doesn’t change the facts we had a deal that both parties agreed to. Good try though buddy.
