Bails and Chains

Its an old nostalgic design. I have old knife, forget the make, with a chain. Im sure they were handy in situations where dropping ones knife would result in it being lost forever.

In our times of material plenty, where someone might have dozens or hundreds of a collectible item, it is easy to forget that until the 1950’s it was only the incredibly wealthy that would have more than 1-2pocket knives, or more than one handgun, a rifle and a shotgun.

The average youth of the pre-WW2 era would have been well advised to chain that knife to his clothes, since if he lost it that was the end of it.

Interesting take on the situation, ElGato!!
I remember being happy to score an old, used knife! We were not wealthy, although we were happy, and weren't starving!! Maybe that is why I love ancient knives so much!!:)

Lostball, the chain is called Jack Chain (appropriate right?) we use it to hang light fixtures and it does tend to knot up occasionally. The nice thing is when you give it a qwik shake it tends to come right out:thumbsup:

And I didn't have chain to play
So I got me some chain 'n pliers, and made me up a chain In my own little way
So thanks to all the porch folks,
for helping me learn new stuff all of the time
