Bar Shields are Simply Beautiful

Robuck and S-K...the judges will accept those oddball entries :D

Ok, staying on task this time, just the bar facts here:

ok Mike, that is definitely a bar shield but whut's up with the inverted nipple pins

Great thread and some super knives. Hadn't really thought about it, but bar shields do seem to show up fairly often in the oldies drawer:

That is a beautiful knife. I don't know that I have ever seen one of those before. Not something you see very often.

Thanks, it's very well made, probably one of the nicest production slipjoints I own ... my wife bought it for me as a birthday present last year. I'm pretty sure AG Russell still has them.

Here's a pic of my Ohtas. As was mentioned already he seems to use bar shields exclusively:

Nice knives posted and I think the bar shields do suit them rather well.

Although, as a relative newcomer to these traditional knives I have to confess that upon seeing a knife the last thing I'll notice and examine is the shield. Maybe I'm more used to the European patterns that rarely have them?

But not denying that a shield can look good on a knife! I just usually think, well, in the direction of "ah so this is where you put the initials then eh?" :D

Don't get me wrong, I'd take a few of the ones posted, but when I think of a Bar Shield, I think of something a lot louder than a knife snapping;) Never been a big fan of it the bar shield on knives, however.

Seriously, though, I think the Federal shield is my favorite of all.

Surprisingly, very few of the older knives seem to have engraving on the shields. This one is actually an exception, bearing the name of the owner: A. Lincoln.

(Needless to say, it isn't from my collection).

Interesting. I always thought that Lincoln's congress had ivory handles.
