^^very capable looking knife. It looks appreciated!

And the Horsecut--sigh--we'll never see that again. Looks great.
Agree, have always admired the horsecut, please school me why it wouldn't make a reappearance.

Chief, the Horsecut Antique bone dates from the early days of GEC, before they processed and jigged their own bone, and was most likely supplied by Culpepper.

I don't know that we will never see it again, but it's unlikely-- and even if Culpepper still makes the bone or could recreate it, it won't be on a GEC knife.

Also? Other "horsecut antique" bone from the same era, on other GEC patterns, does not even have the same appearance. This bone business is evidently tricky. :D

GEC has produced other stellar bone/jigging on its own, and to my eyes this year's offerings point towards a continual upping of its jig game.

But, given that GEC itself almost never repeats the same bone jigging/coloration (even with the same name!), while we may see other bone as fine in other ways I don't think we'll see this again.

I'd love to be proven wrong. :)

an interesting post. thanks.

Great looking SBJ Will!! Love Case's Damascus steel. I couldn't manage a Damascus version but I am happy with this one.

Here's one I don't post often, a Camillus made Remington Baby Trapper.

Schatt & Morgan File & Wire Series Large Barlow knife. and, they do mean "large"....

Those Old Gents are super, especially that second one! Swell End, great bone and shield, an inspirational knife. But, my eyes are worsening, what's the tang-stamp? Challenge?

Thank you for showing these ancestors of todays Traditionals.

Regards, Will

Yes, it is Challenge. Top to bottom they are Valley Forge, Challenge, and Queen.

The blades are a little crusty but nice dark red jigged bone on this Christopher Johnson jack knife.

I only have one in jigged bone, a Case slim trapper. I'm not really a jigged bone fan. And once I got the knife I realized I don't particularly like trappers either. It's ok-ish, certainly not pic worthy.

The pic posted by Robb though; holy moly that one is beautiful. I really like the uniformity of the jigging on those. Very nice!

...i would love to see any and all pics of your barehead traditional folders with jigged bone handles...
Here's a barehead jigged bone -RENOWN- from Sheffield. Once named "Sneezy" then "Kermit" (by certain Forum members :)) now debuting in his final coloration. Hey Meako, the secondary blade is still tough to open. :D

Second on the burnt orange #72 and #65 in antique Autumn jigged bone. Don't know why we don't get more of these simple set ups and with long pulls which I love!!
