Bareheaded Ebony Jacks. Let's see 'em!

Terrific knives everyone!

Not the best picture but here's a drawer full of my bareheaded ebonys.

I wasn't thinking of TL-29s, but they fit in the category, too.
Ulster:

The Schatt Heritage in Ebony. Has a really suitable shield, the Spear version has much better handle:blade ratio but that one is Rosewood/Coco
Er, this is not actually Ebony..but it's very black Blackwood

I'm not an arborist, so if it looks like ebony, I say it counts. :D I don't mind seeing single blades either. It's all good.

Thanks Rachel :D:thumbup: Of course there are some very light colour Ebonies from GEC, near Walnut colour and I've heard of Back&White Ebony but not seen it on a pocket-knife.

I THINK Ken's knife could be a Grohmann, quite the looker anyway.

This thread has been outstanding folks!
Here's an old Northfield. Ebony? Might be rosewood, not sure.

Thanks for the interest Rachel.

Will is correct. It is a Grohmann. Good call Will!
Grohmann makes a lot of knives in rosewood but I believe this one to be ebony.

Have a good one!

That's a really nice looking knife. Great covers. I love the way older knives were pinned. Looks way nicer than the big pins on modern GECs, to my eyes at least.

Great thread, r8shell!!
Last time I posted in the "totin today" thread (couple of days ago :(), I was amazed by the fine selection of ebony knives (I singled out the spearpoints that day), so your thread is a fine way to scratch the itch that started back then.
I think I have only one knife that qualifies - an old KeenKutter (and I'm pretty sure the covers are actually cocobolo, but I can't tell the difference :o)

Here are my only offerings:

My TC Barlow was very generously gifted to me by Duane (aka. sitflyer).
The Northfield #25 was an SFO I purchased from gunstockjack.

Great thread idea, r8shell! Ebony is king, and bareheaded ebony is sweet indeed. :)

Doe bareheads with lanyard holes count?

[How did this end of the knife come to be described as the barehead, yet also the, er, butt? An actual question on terminology and usage, not meant as a prompt into nudge-nudge wink-wink territory. Waves at Frank and Gary.]

Wow that's a beauty Mark. What a great specimen! We'd all love more pics of that one if you get a chance sometime. Those covers are in great shape too.

You know Ebony is king, 'cause it's got its own special little travel box. :)

I have wondered too, if calling them "bare-ended jacks" led to too much giggling. :p

Always enjoy your photos Pertinux. I know the knives are the focus of this thread, but I have to say the storage case is beautiful too.

Thanks for the kind words! Way more about the storage box(es) here.

Forget withstanding centuries in the salty sea, this ebony has survived Modoc ED!

Half/Stop, I share your fascination with the lighter ebony, leading to this knife:

Some really nice ebony in this thread.

My contribution and only ebony I have. Best photo I have access to atm.

Only a few, I fear, and all of very recent vintage. In bare-headed ebony Jack land, I prefer the Eureka frame.

This little bear headed knife belongs to my father. He purchased it new about 50 years ago. Whatever maker's mark might have once been present, are long gone. No half stop. Would anyone by chance know the manufacturer? Apologies for quality of images. Mark.
