Bareheaded Ebony Jacks. Let's see 'em!

Sorry: bare headed NOT bear headed!! [emoji57]

I don't know, I think a bear-headed Ebony jack would be pretty awesome! :D

I just acquired a couple more. A KaBar Hawkbill and a Robeson Shuredge that I think used to be a Maize knife.

Possibly cocobolo wood, but it's nice and dark. I love the way the handle swells out. Very comfortable in hand.

Quick shot of my assortment. The Enderes (between the 14 & 15) might not be Ebony but was sold as such. I have another Razor 15 in much lighter Ebony, but I didn't want to fish the tube out of the closet. The EO was rehandled by Glennbad.

I prefer barehead over cap bolsters. I'll start with some modern ones:

And some oldies:

And last but not least, this Challenge has the best ebony...absolutely black, super fine grain.

Fantastic examples lambertiana both Ancient & Modern  Those old Stabber Jacks are impressive old battle horses.

In my view, Barehead (or even the Grizzly cool Bearhead:D ) knives are always nicer looking than versions with an end cap -obviously not including those patterns that must have end-caps. You get the full Stag, Jigged Bone or Wood grain with a Barehead, not chopped off end. I like them better in the hand too.

Here's my recent one, greatly prized and a very generous present from Ken K  I think it has great ageing potential, the grain is dense and the Eureka is a wonderful frame that, with creative thinking...could house a lot of different blade types, just thinking'

Interesting to see the swell in that handle, I don't know that I've ever seen a wood handled knife done like that. Amazing how thin they seem to have done it towards the bolster.

I, too, prefer bareheaded knives to those with end caps. You posted some great examples, but I'm particularly drawn to that #15 Farm Boy. One of my favorite patterns from GEC. I have a couple in jigged bone, but never managed to get ahold of one in Ebony. Beautiful knife!

Great pics! I love ebony scales, they age so beautifully. The bareheaded models have had a strong appeal to me lately - I may have to try one out.

A gift from BigBiscuit. :)

I'm going to sharpen it, and I hope to carefully restore that swedge down to the tip.

Thanks, Bob!

I want to bump this thread to show my latest rescue. Before:

After:

I've been carrying it for a few weeks, and I'm really liking the utility of the blade shape. Not enough to chop off a new blade of course, but enough that I wouldn't hesitate to buy another broken knife. :)
