Bark River Gunny review!!

Thanks guys!! :)

It is a great blade....Ive been spending alot of time in the woods on the bike lately, and it has accompanied me every time. Ive got alot of use into this one already. I cant say enough good about it...

It is thinner then the Bravo1, but it is still thick enough to do serious work. I have no qualm aboout puttin it through hardcore work. I know the warranty will stand up behind it.

I juust got i from a BBQ a friends house where the Gunny made short work of a huge brisket. It is a user thats fo sho!!

Thanks Jake, for the review.

I think I'm probably in eastr77's camp in that I don't find the Bravo1 too big, not that I've handled the Gunny.

To me the B1 is the closest to an all-around knife that I will ever find. Cuts well and is pretty well bomb-proof.

I have been fighting the 'buy-a-Gunny' demon, and so far, I'm winning. However, if they ever bring out a stainless steel model, I think I'm in trouble. :(

Congrats, that Gunny is awesome and in that Eastr77 sheath you can carry it 4 ways. Horizontal, vertical, neck and IWB. Its my favorite sheath.

Great review!

Thanks Derrick! And thanks for the fast shipping... You are my goto guy for blades. If you got it, thats where Im gettin it.

Nice review, good information. Thanks for sharing ... and putting another knife onto my have to get list

Question: Is the leather sheath from BR also available with a clip, rather than a belt loop?

Nice review, the knife is tempting me.

If I have any money left after blade, I think I will just have to have one.

Very nice review! I'm fighting the temptation to order one from Derrick. I almost clicked the mouse on one a few minutes ago. Does anyone have a pic of the Gunny in the sheath on your belt? I don't really like my knife handles digging into my side so I try to avoid high riding sheaths. Any issues with this?

well said doc the B1 is like you say bomb proof . Derrick from knivesshipfree will order the SS gunny but mike wont make them till he has a order for at least 200 so email derrick and let him know you want it it isi possible to have them made:D

Thanks for doing a review of the Gunny knife. I found (thanks Robert!) the presence of the 'thumb ramp' a drawback for me. I would much prefer 'gimping' on the spine in place of a thumb ramp on a knife this size. I know it was put there for 'family purposes', but It would be ground off if I got one.

Second, I think this pattern could stand to be made again in half the thickness, and still be robust enough for the tasks at hand. The weight is a bit more noticeable to me in this size knife; and G10 scales make it feel like the balance is behind the ricasso IMO/E. Even just thinning down the tang gradually towards the rear of the handle would help reduce some of the weight.

This knife may very well replace some folks F1's in time. It has a good 'hand feel in the grip', just a bit heavy to me.

When you say Stainless Steel Robert, do you mean 12c27? And thanks again, you are a Kydex magician:thumbup:

Hey e77, I think you missed the point - I don't need any more knives ................(but a stainless steel Gunny.....:()

Doc

I seem to be one of the only people alive that likes the ramp on the bravo 1.
I may try the gunny as I generally prefer a shorter blade then what is on my bravo 1

I was told that the ramp isn't a thumbramp. Your thumb is supposed to go in front of the hump for more leverage on things such as notching cuts. Additionally, it's for striking the firesteel. This is what I heard over at the BRKT forums.

Nice knife, I almost got one. I find the ramp a bit of a turn-off so I ended up getting the hiking and camping forum knife instead!

Great review Jake  Crap, now I really do need to go and get one... :D

The B1 is my favorite knife hands down, but the Gunny is looking better and better everytime I see it. And I'd definitely be interested in a SS version as well.
