Bark River Gunny review!!

I found ... the presence of the 'thumb ramp' a drawback for me.

I find the ramp a bit of a turn-off...

The Gunny is available from Bark River without the ramp.

Some where made that way on the first run.

There is a second run coming up, let Derrick or one of the other dealers know what you want, and have it made the way you want it.

For those of you who have the knife and find you don’t like the thumb ramp, send it back to Bark River to have it removed, it will only cost you a $12 shipping and handling charge.

I have not handled the Gunny yet, but I like the Bravo-1 better rampless.

I seem to be one of the only people alive that likes the ramp on the bravo 1.
I may try the gunny as I generally prefer a shorter blade then what is on my bravo 1

I agree! I like the ramp. Even on the Gunny!

Great review Jake  Crap, now I really do need to go and get one... :D

The B1 is my favorite knife hands down, but the Gunny is looking better and better everytime I see it. And I'd definitely be interested in a SS version as well.

Dude, you would love it! Im bringin it out there with me, so if we can meet up, you can check it out in person. (then see how had it is to resist buyin one :p)

+1, I'm a rampless fan too, but the ramp isn't the end of the world for me either. Good to know it's just as easy to get a thumbrampless version from Derrick, like my SS B1.

I'm happy with my Bravo 1, but now I'm thinking.........
I wonder if Bark River will have a rep at the Blade show?

I was told that the ramp isn't a thumbramp. Your thumb is supposed to go in front of the hump for more leverage on things such as notching cuts. Additionally, it's for striking the firesteel. This is what I heard over at the BRKT forums.

Nice knife, I almost got one. I find the ramp a bit of a turn-off so I ended up getting the hiking and camping forum knife instead!
It isn't a thumb ramp and I think this is how some people try to use it

According to Bark River, it is a ramp style thumb rest. I have no problem with it on my Bravo-1, but with the Gunny, it just seems to be in the way of an otherwise very comfortable knife. I'm holding off taking it to the belt sander. I'll give it the summer and see what happens.
