Bark River Knives... Heat Treat, Edge Retention and A2???

Then you obviously haven't browsed the BR section at Knife Forums. Although you have to be quick - the usual pattern is that anyone who complains of a fault in a BR gets beaten up for several days and then the thread gets deleted.

I'm better informed than You Meanwhile!
I used to be a SM there, so I'm pretty well aware of what's true and what's nonsense.

Ok: multiple people have complained in this and other threads of the harrassment that goes on in that forum; you are the person who allowed or encouraged it; and you think that makes you a better character witness???

Obviously you'll think whatever you allowed Big Mike to do was ok - but that doesn't mean that anyone else should.

That makes me know when this thread goes out in the blue instead of stay on topic, in discussion Bark River Bravo 1,5 in A2 steel.
I know You stated that You don't own any Bark Rivers and never had any personal experience with them.

Yet You have a lot of opinions of Bark River products.
You say that members are getting paychecks from BR wich is pure nonsense, but this makes me wonder who pays You for all the negative lobbying against the Bark River company.
You obviously aren't one of their customers, so what drives You in Your hatred against this brand if not money?

...And there is absolutely no chance at all that Mike Stewart is paying or otherwise rewarding people to make falsely positive posts about his products. Because a man who would cheat Ethan Becker and Jerry Fisk, his own employees and dealers, and take his bank for $500,000 would never stoop to such tactics! Why - it wouldn't be ethical!
On topic?

Some brands of knife are bought by people who use them, others.. not. BKRT is probably the most extreme example of the second. It's the basis of their aesthetics driven marketing strategy with that huge range of handle materials, most of which don't work nearly as well micarta. The only thing they don't offer is the one thing you can argue works better than micarta on choppers - rubber. That's telling too. I remember one guy telling me he bought his Bravo to practice making fires in his backyard - which meant he used it waaaay more than most BRs get used in his opinion.

But even allowing for the problems with BRs, the odds are against your getting a bad knife - at least in A2.

I've tried to avoid becoming embroiled in your ceaseless diatribes about Mike Stewart and will endeavour to continue to do so. However to makes such a ridiculous sweeping statement about BRKT purchasers is just beyond any kind of level of reasonableness and reality. I own 9 Bark River knives of my 18 fixed blades and I certainly use them - I shoot on the farm most days in one form or another. Additionally, my 3 regular shooting partners also use Bark River knives (in addition to others). They too regularly put their knives to real work.

I hasten to add, that I don't just use them for skinning game, I also prepare my fire wood kindling, etc. throughout the winter with a knife. Often one from BRKT. What you're are presenting is nothing other than your warped opinion. That's fine but presenting it as fact is now just getting stupid.

I know that the BRKT A2 and CPM3V is robust and effective as I actually own them. As you've stated - you don't own a single BRKT so perhaps you could dial down your rhetoric on this?!?

I know you're going to comeback with some "Fan boy" accusation. Before you do, know that I am neither a 'boy' nor is BRKT the most heavily represented knife manufacturer in my collection.

OK, I'm putting this to bed.

I recently received my Bravo 1.5 and while my choice of handle material might not be everyone's favorite, I like it!!

I immediately inspected it under an extremely high end scientific microscope (naked eye) for even carbon content and grain structure. Check. I then used a custom calibration tool (again, naked eye) designed specifically for judging grind lines on BRKT knives (this was a custom tool, you will not find them in any stores). Imagine that...... Perfect grind lines. Double Check. Lastly, I used an epoxy gauge to determine the lateral strength differential of the adhesion coefficient. Yup, the scales are stuck on the blade. Motha Flippen Triple Check!

I then took it outside hacked a couple of branches off a dead tree and commenced beating it like it owed me money. Funny..... The edge didn't roll or chip? What the.....??? As a matter of fact, it's still shaving hair off my arm! I'm surprised!! Anyway, the knife preforms as it should and as any other knife in my collection has. Time will tell if any issues develop, but as for now it seems to be working just fine.

Now back to this thread. I've been a member here for a long time. Although I don't post everyday, I usually frequent the forum daily in some way or another. It took me awhile to get bothered enough to actually post this, but here goes nuttin....

"meanwhile" GET OVER IT!

Other than a few obviously bias warranty comments, you have added nothing to this thread other than commercial value for your own self serving interests. My initial post was looking for constructive, positive/negative EXPERIENCES. Neither of which you provided. If you have nothing constructive to offer my threads -- STAY OFF OF THEM! If your don't like their knives, DON'T BUY THEM!

To the others attempting to reign him in, don't bother, it's not worth your time.

To those who made an effort and offered good information, it's appreciated. As always, I can count on my internet brothers here on Bladeforums to help me cut through the crap and make an informed decision.

With that.....Fin.

tiogatires - Thanks for sharing your impressions as well as the photos. Definately a looker.

Meanwhile – I couldn’t help but notice that sprinkled amongst your sanctimonious lecturing on this thread and others about how we should not support Bark River due to the lack of integrity and track record of Mike Stewart you have also recommended knives made by M-Tech, a Master Cutlery, Inc. brand operated by Victor & Henry Lee who are known to be some of the biggest design thieves in the industry for many years. Well regarded knife makers such as Ken Onion, Todd Begg, Jerry Busse and others have all had their designs stolen by those associated with M-Tech.

I’m curious how you rationalize claiming moral high ground by condemning one maker associated with several accounts of thievery while at the same time you condone by recommendation another maker who is also associated with several accounts of thievery? Seems to me that some guy ripping off one Jerry (Fisk) is not all that different than another guy ripping off a different Jerry (Busse).

Congratulations! That’s a great knife.

I like the color and most of my Bark River’s are G-10.

I own about half a dozen Bark River knives and I've been happy with them since the day I bought them. They came sharp with good sheaths and have withstood anything I've thrown at them. No chipping, edge rolling, asymmetrical grinds etc. Just good knives that do the job well, I rate them highly enough to have carried one in Afghanistan and recommend them to other serving marines heading to there.

Just picked up a Bravo 1.5 in A2 and it's performing just as well as my other Bark River knives.

Good for you, OP. Glad you like your Barkie. This will probably be the first of many! Have fun, man.

I have several Doziers, one of which has cleaned and butchered five deer without a touch up. I can tell you that the 1.5 was the sharpest knife I have ever received. I know it won't compete with Bobs D2 heat treat and hold that edge as long as his blades but super impressive none the less. I'm looking forward to using this knife this summer..... At least until my Winkler field knife shows up....sigh. ; )

Congrats to the new knife and enjoy the fun! :D
