Bark River knives?

I'm sure this guy jumps in on any thread having to do w barkriver and says these things. Boredom probably has something to do w it too. I'm guessing that this isn't the only company that is getting negative things said about them. Like I said I am new here so I don't want to piss anyone off but is there somewhere on the forums that we can just talk about the knives instead of all this other crap ?

Again, being informed helps. Read some first and you will see BRKT has a long, documented history of "baggage." Obviously, new folks like yourself have not heard about it, and so people will discuss the baggage to help inform other members.

If you want to discuss BRKT without any of that baggage being brought up, there are places to do that.

I know of their baggage I just was trying to discuss their knives . We were doing so until things were brought up. We all have the www at our fingertips so if we wanted to discuss (baggage ) I'm sure we would have been . Like I said before I totally understand peoples issue w Brkt but I don't need it shoved in my face at every turn I take . It bores me

I got 2.. Like them both.. The Trailmate is my favorite out of the 2.. The other is a real early PSK that I keep in my hunting coat!! Just sayin!! And I would like to get a Gunny Hunter in the future!! John:)

if you want a nice looking knife BRK has several nice looking options with a mass production heat treatment (not optimal).

if you want something that excels in any one (or multiple) direction(s), get a custom knife.

for instance if you want super steel with optimal heat treatment and great edge retention, for a fillet or hunter knife, Phil Wilson would be a great option.

Just as people are bored by the people who willingly ignore the long history that Bark River has. Many are tired of getting "BRKT is all rainbows and unicorns" shoved in their face too.

Its a forum. People have multiple opinions. Even ones different than yours! Deal.

Again, if you want only the rainbows and unicorns there is a place where that happens. You have the www at your fingertips.

But there are people who are unaware of this long history and wish to know about it.

I think everyone knows how easy it is to get a bad name and get bad publicity ....

Yeah. Lawsuits, "Effingham," blaming "user error" for edges rolling on chopsticks, recalls, multiple burnt bridges with other makers, etc will do that.

I'll say this about BRKT. When they ship out crappy knives, they may fix them for you.

Me, I like "not crappy" out of the box.

The people who complain about shady practices I hope are not buying anything from Amazon, Walmart, Sony, BestBuy, Microsoft, Intel etc etc, pretty much any medium to a big corp....

Except Mike Stewart is a guy, and BRKT isn't a big corp. It's Stewart's shop in the UP. Him and a handful of people grinding blades.

I'll say this too, and I've said it many times before.

Stewart is capable of producing a very well designed knife. But BRKT created the baggage and the animosity.

It has been proven time and again that you can run a successful knife maker without all that crap. But look, all that crap created a powerful us vs them comradery amongst the Barkites, and that is a proven marketing strategy in the knife world, and Stewart is the best marketer in the business.

Though, I have seen some stuff lately that puts him to shame.

Oh, I see. Lots of bad out there so who cares if the guy who I support screws people over. Makes perfect sense!

Opinions will differ, don't like differing views? Boy, you're in for a doosey.

It does not change a thing. You sure can choose not to buy any product from any company. But preaching about "moral high stand" and do the opposite in different circumstances sounds a lot like personal dislike/vendetta and hypocrisy.

I hardly think informing others of whom they support is preaching. That's my opinion.

I know one thing, you won't stop any one from sharing their opinions here.

then stick your head in the sand. you could start your own FB group and ban anyone that says anything you dont like. true or not. thats what a lot of folks do these days.

Yes. And with all the makers out there who don't have baggage, who are genuinely good folks, and dont produce knives that have to be sent back (and then call that good customer service), I choose other than BRKT.

Hey I don't see anything in that link you left a couple of post before the one I just put up to get your attention. I'm sure I've read it though and I'm sure some people don't go around just making shit up but with mikes history I'm sure things get blown out of proportion and any time he does anything wrong it's going to be a way worse for him then it would be from one of the so called (reptuable knife makers, good guys, whatever) I'm done arguing about it though cause I really don't care and I try not to judge people based on their past and or what other people have to say about them. Even if it's all true though... I still wouldn't care. Bark river has great designs, beautiful handles, awesome steel with a good heat treat, and to top it all off they have a strict no questions asked, lifetime warranty. That's good enough for me but hey I should probably just get a quartermaster? For my pocket knife needs.

When I purchase a knife I make sure beforehand the company I'm buying it from is worth supporting, if more people did the same we wouldn't have to constantly talk about the crap certain companies keep pulling.

Do you do that with every thing you buy? Where do you purchase your gas and oil? Also if bark river was a shitty company like people say this wouldn't even be a topic.. there would be no question and they would not have as many supporters as they do.
