Bark river knives?

So why don't you just state the outcome rather than asking someone to read 17 pages of text or whatever?

Relax! You are getting wound up over nothing.
I'm not wound up, text is difficult to pull emotion from, I get it. I'm right as rain . I got a good friend coming to visit for the weekend actually, I'm pretty darn happy.

Are you lazy? You want me to tell you something so you don't have to read? That's funny.

I'm the kind of guy that likes to get as close to the source as possible. A read it myself kind of guy.

Don't support Mike Stewart. He's a scum bag who's screwed many people over including people on this forum. His screwing over Brian Evans basically ruined Brian's knife making.

Do some digging and decide for yourself.
The questionable ethics of the company was the main reason I started this thread. I researched bark river on Google and the search function here before making this thread but I wasn't able to find anything definitive on my own. I figured the knowledgeable members here would know the truth or could point me in the right direction.
I'll definitely try the good, bad and ugly forum.

There has been controversy with some mis-labeled steel and blaming the buyer if they don’t like the knife. So buy it from a retailer with a good reputation for taking care of you if you don’t like it, and you’re likely golden. Knives ship free and dlt trading have been great to me for this purpose.

That said, the knives can be very good. I have a few and mostly like them. But I’m likely not going to get more, because I found other brands and custom makers in the price range that I trust more.
I was considering the custom option also. The bark river was on the high end of my budget at $250ish. If anyone has suggestions for a forum member maker that could cook me up a good 5" blade of similar specs in my budget I'm all ears.

Honestly I commend you for at least thinking of the ethics. I know it seems like a broken record when other members and I bring these negative truths up but many people don't know the history and if it helps keep one honest guy from supporting scum then it's worth it.

If you haven't found enough to prove you that Mike is a trickster and manipulator by the time I get free time this evening I'll help you out.

I would certainly appreciate the help but don't go out of your way. I'm sure if I look around long enough I'll find something.
Most of what I found so far has been " mike is the devil " or Mike's an awesome guy. Kind of stuff. Even if I don't find much real info, the word of the members here is more than enough for me to go on.
Besides the more I think about, I'm likening the idea of a custom maker from here on blade forums. Even if I have to save for a while to go that route.

I also want a custom from a custom maker on Bladeforums but don't really know who to ask...

Im not sure of your style, but I’ve been eyeing Gollik Knives lately. You can get great steel, overbuilt aesthetic, comfy looking handles, and seems to be reasonably priced.

You could try browsing the maker's for sale area and wait until you see something pop up that tickles your fancy.

This is really the answer. Go through the last several pages of the knifemakers for sale forum. They’ll mostly all be sold, but you’ll get to see all sorts of styles from all sorts of makers, and the prices they run. I looked for a few weeks before I settled on my first.

Warning: it gets addictive. I keep trying to convince myself I need a fighter knife even though I actually need one less than a hole the head. They’re just so badass!

The Brian Evans ordeal was a solid scummy move, one I might add that Stewart has pulled on other people. You could even say it's his MO.
