i got a F1 and intend to buy a barkie

i tend to compare an bark river with the F1

why? i dunno, i think it seems the best comparison, considering the stuff i have

so, how would you ppl compare bark rivers with F¨llkniven knives?

i'd think the barkies have a kind of custom factor to it that they can be ordered in lots of differents styles, or mainly lots of different handle materials

if you got one handle material, you'd like to try another
fa¨llkniven doest quite have that

that is offcoure not utility wise and/or the main difference, but one that can affect the buyer ...gravely

kinda like with leeks, i got one, i want to try(and have) 'em all

fallkniven offers 'naked' blades, no handle...so you can put whatever you want there
true, i'd like to try that sometime

but first with a cheap "Mora of Sweden" blade :D

and i really dont see me making handles the quality bark river does

making your own custom handles is a different thing althogether imo

it is , sure
i dont have any bark knife, i just have the F1 like you do, so there is nothing i can say for bark river...

i'd probably try and get a piece of antler somewhere, soak it in water and then stick the blade into it, creating a handle

somewhat ironic that around here hunting is kinda the forbidden sport of the rich
and in usa hunting is the poor mans way of feeding his family cheaply

but we do have far less wilderniss here, eventho it is more a question of cultural evolution imo

Judging from the looks I like the Barkies way more. Also, their is more quality and workmanship that goes into Bark Rivers.

I do not own a Bark River so I can not comment on them. I do however have an F1 that can take anything I have thrown at it, short of abuse. The quality of the F1 is outstanding & I am happy to own it.

I own a few of both. I have an F1 handled in green Micarta just sent my S1 in to get a similar handle added (don't care for the rubber). Fallkniven makes great knives as does Bark River...having choices is a good thing and either one would serve you well. Bark River has a larger selection with more options, but that hardly detracts from the simple function of many in the Fallkniven series. About the only two I could compare the F1 to are the Bravo-1 (thicker blade) and Fox River (tad bit thinner blade)...I wouldn't feel under knife with any of them.

I own both and they are both great knives. (I'd pick the Bravo). Slightly thicker blade, thumb ramp (love it or hate it), but the main selling feature for me is the significantly larger handle. The F1 feels tiny in my hand and the Bark River is just right.

Fallkniven and Bark River both have practical, functional designs. Ok, the Bark Rivers can be had in more handle variations. The owners of both companies are very knowledgable of what makes a knife work.

Anyway, for me it's not Bark River vs Fallkniven, it's Bark River AND Fallkniven.

Kind regards,

Jos

Those Barked Fallknivens are awesome. I want a Fallkniven and a Barkie for my collection and now I can get both in one knife. I would have liked an S1 or F1 with the sheep horn though.

Yes both - I have F1 and S1, and my do a Bravo 1 later.

I like the rubber and I also like that the blade is slightly thinner. For most jobs unneeded thickness gets in the way of Julienning the carrots ....

However Fallkniven have distinctive sheaths that took some geting used to - though actually growing on me significantly now - the Bravo has a more tradional western/tacticool sheath as standard

Don't think you can make a wrong decision

both companys make excellent products,,,own a f1 and a few barkies...great knives ...

I think you may not have a realistic view of hunting in the US.
Although there ARE people here who hunt out of the necessity for food, and would suffer hardship without it, the majority of hunters here do it more for sport and tradition. That's not to say that the meat isn't eaten. It is devoured with great enthusiasm because we love it. Have you ever eaten Elk? It's the BEST!
And of course any amount of money saved by hunting meat, rather than buying it, is helpful. Even to those of us who are financially alright. But most of us would get by without any hardship even if, for some reason, we couldn't hunt.

But we'd be pretty PISSED OFF! :)

Oh yeah, the thread.
Bark River vs. Fallkniven? . . . It's a toss up IMO.

The Barkies are prettier though! :D

"Anyway, for me it's not Bark River vs Fallkniven, it's Bark River AND Fallkniven" and for me as well. Also a Barkkniven or a Fall River take your pick.It is a F1 fallkniven modified by BRKT. Awesome! http://www.knivesshipfree.com/Fallk....html?osCsid=e3d5f0471126f95daec8daa83ffe65d4
that truly is both at once!

but the prices of the fallknivens sure went up a bit this way too^^

heh looks like i did good comparing a barkie to a fallkniven, they must be similar in ways

Also for me, Fallkniven and Bark River K&T.

Both brands make awesome blades, that are very well made. Fallkniven is all about function. Bark River is about fucntion AND form.......:D

I would recommend to get some of both brands........:D
