Jon, here's the Camillus... And here are the Keen Kutter and Diamond Edge
KKDE005_zps70026103.jpg

Beautiful 3 pin bone on the Camillus, thanks for sharing, I believe that bolster began in 1951, and the tang stamp ended in 56..

I now see the EC Simmons bolster is different than the Diamond Edge, thanks for the details.
Do you know if that EC Simmons stamp was in use after Winchester bought Simmons in 1922, and took over the Walden equipment? Who do you think made the KK?

here is my Simmons KK relic, circa 1904-1920, note the handle pin position is different than your KK and DE, because the middle pin is not centered..

Very curious who would have made the DE also, very similar pin position to the KK, but Brass Pins instead of steel... Possible Schrade, post 1924, when they took over the Walden building? Any ideas?

Thanks for the great pics, fun food for thought..

Found this in an drawer in my Dad's barn. Very rough fit and finish. The pen blade has a one sided grind that is uneven and wavy down the length of the blade. The main blade has an uneven grind too. Having said that it must be pretty tough to still resemble a knife after my Dad has used it and he left it covered in what looks like Coca-cola syrup (he installs and repairs soda fountain equipment) for at least 10 years. Given the quality and fact my Dad owns it I'm sure it was dirt cheap so it definitely fits the Barlow criteria of cheap and durable.

Tang stamp: "The Ideal USA"

That is a gorgeous Barlow!

Thank you sir !!

I have been browsing this forum for a long time and finally joined up.:) I keep getting expanding thumbnails instead of my actual image during the upload process.

When a Barlow dies, does it dream? Can it be brought back to life? Guess I'm going to try. I just bought this one and it is on it's way. I think I am seeing some good potential under that rust and dust. XLNT is a Kastor mark and this 3 3/8" knife, to the best of my knowledge, was made 1931-1951 for F.W. Woolworth with the "KENT N.Y. CITY" tang. Other than the obvious active rust bloom, it doesn't look too bad. Polished steel bolsters, steel linings, the blades are more full than one might expect on an older two blade barlow.

That's going to look great. You almost had some competition, but I was out mowing today and didn't set my Rooster alarm! :D

Congratulations!

MMM, if you watched it, you know how dearly I paid for it. What you didn't see was that I was prepared to give two dollars more! As it was, would-be competetors were spared the agony of finding that out! Now I must say that this is all that Jon_Slider guy's fault. He tempted me with links on other old Kastor/Camillus knives knowing that they were among the knives in my collection stolen back in November, and I really had no intention of trying to replace them. But.... here eye yam. Oh, and you can have the other XLNT barlow. I'm afraid it is beyond my ability to resuscitate.

That makes it even better. :)

Lol, so he got you too! Ol' Slider had me throwing bids on a few things the other night too... bird-doggin'. ;)

Yepper. I passed on the Fulton barlow. I passed on the Craftsman barlow. Then he up and sent me an Imperial Mark Twain barlow darnit. I may just replace the other old barlows I lost. Heck, you can fit a dozen of these puppies in a small frame and enjoy knowing the history. And pocket one from time to time to just enjoy the simplicity of the design.

^^^ He had me chasin' Tip Top's, fortunately the one I really had my eye on went for too much and I quit bidding 5 minutes before it ended.

LOL, yeah Al I guess he's got us all on the hook!!! He should start charging a finder's fee... :D

Im enjoying spending OPM and "giving away" knives for free, and I love seeing everyones pics :-)

A couple of my own favorite finds:

This is my one and only Barlow. It's become an obsession with me and is my constant companioin. It's never out of my reach since I received it in early December. To me this is just THE classic pocket knife. I find myself fondling it when sitting and watching TV. The glassy smooth, super fine-grained African Blackwood scales fascinate me and feel so warm to the touch. Shown here with a coin gifted to me by our very own jon_slider... :)
