My wife and I have been married since 1991. However, truth be known we were living together(in sin) as they say, for at least several years prior to the marvelous bliss of marriage.. OK, Well anyway, my wife had never been Bass fishing until she met me!.:) .. One day while sight fishing in early March in mid 1990's in my old Bass Tracker boat, I got hooked up with some confounded weed patches which my wife had to un-tangle while in the back of the boat while I bitched and moaned.. After she got my baby sluggo lure untangled from the weed patch she said, " Hey, I just found an old knife.".. Low and behold, sure enough that bad boy was sticking out of an old cypress stump by the main blade with an old bag of plastic "Culprit" worms in the old motor oil flavor right next to it.. The knife wasn't anything to valuable, just an old cheap COLONIAL, PROV.USA Barlow pattern. Well, I kept it of coarse. Same condition as it was we found it over 11 years ago, except I oil the blades every month or so these days.

Good story, Sunny. (I'll bet most of us have a story or two about a knife we found unexpectedly. Probably a decent thread in itself at some point.)

Yes, some good stories here... as well as good knives.

Here is a Schrade Barlow with ducks scrimmed on the handle...except it kinda looks like someone shot one of the ducks...

Kerry or Tony, does that Case XX in the cirlce photo to the left of the opened barlow have a bone handle? It' looks almost like mammoth.

Like I was saying to Blues yesterday, this thread is liking sitting down with a magazine full of barlows and interesting information. Thanks to everyone who has posted.

My short term memory aint that great but I think Tony said that Case made that for a while and called it "Apalloosa". I don't think it's horse bone though:p :D and it definitely isn't mammoth ivory.

Kerry,

I think they re-introduced the Appaloosa bone in green four or five years ago, but I'm sure others here know more. I was wondering if that one had been re-handled. I hadn't seen the Appaloosa bone on an old Case knife before.

They used appaloosa bone on some patterns back in the 1970s. It's the real deal, not been rehandled.

Awesome stuff from everyone!!

Tony/Kerry...WOW!!

mckgreg, very nice, as always.

Here is another of the Colonial/Russell reproductions...

You can sort of see the sunken pivot joint on this one. It is not serialized, like the set was, so maybe they sold some individually as well? Or, maybe a leftover from when Colonial was having finacial woes?
