I had that Schrade with the pheasant on it and sold it too. Wish I had it now. That's okay. I got one with a great horned owl now. :D

A very old(how old?) OVB curved Barlow trapper with a Clip(tip's been broken and reshaped) and spey, iron bolsters and liners, and stag. This knife works great and has flush jointed blades and half stops. The spring goes right out to the edge of the bolsters!

Wonderful knife! (pant, drool!) Thanks for showing it!

When I get home the middle of August, I'll have to take a photo or 2 of my Barlow that Billy Watson made for me. It has a hand-forged carbon steel blade, iron bolsters, and sambar stag handle scales that I supplied to him to use. It's a REAL "usin' knife" and is as sharp as they come.

I have been surf'n the bay and checking the local shows for a little over three months now for a great vintage using Barlow.. This one just arrived and I thought I'd share the pic and such..

Good old carbon steel, half stops, and rich Carmel colored rough sawn bone scales make this one my new favorite edc.. Marked on both the blades tangs in three lines are: SCHRADE <> CUT. CO. <> WALDEN,NY.

She is a great find in very good condition at $36.USD delivered to my door and it took me just a little work on the old Wichita stone to get her back to shaving sharp.

Real nice shape! How'd I miss that one??:D:D
I've found those old Cut. Co.s to have good steel in them. I carry a jack off and on, and it retains a good edge.

Schrade NY Grandad's Old Barlow, Ulster Old Timer 10OT, Cattaraugus
And a Schrade 8oth Anniversery Daddy Barlow
Two of these are a rerun

A lot of these were collected when they were a bit cheaper. I have asked a noted Barlow expert to help me determine the subcontractors, and will post results here for those interested. Case subbed a lot of their Barlows out! I've got 8 pics so I'll do 4 here, and 4 in the next post.

Sunnyd, that is one nice Schrade my friend! I've been looking for that model myself ( actually I've been looking for one that Charlie hasn't spotted yet, and to make matters worse now he's branching out into Keen Kutters and Primbles!:D:D). BTW that is some nice pile-o-barlows there Charlie! I heard from a reliable source that they were all done by Rough Rider, you can tell by the XX, which translates to RR. Don't worry though, I'll grudgingly take them of your hands to save you from further embarassment;):D

What a nice guy! what's your address, Eric??:D:D

Hey! You've been spying on me!! ;-)

Oooooooh Ahhhhhhhh! That is an amazing array of Barlows! The ones that really stand out are the ones in G and H with the razor end blades. Also, there are a couple that have bolsters finished like the OVB in post #102. Fascinating collection Charlie!:cool:

One thing I am impressed with on my vintage 1930's Russell Barlow is how keen the edge is. (I received it in unused/unsharpened condition a few months ago.) Even after all these years laying around the original edge was wickedly sharp. The only blemish is a hairline crack in the pile side scale. What wonderful knives.

Russells are indeed the quintessential Barlows, Elliott!
That's a nice one you have. One Russell collector told me the clip blades are much harder to find!

I just went though every knife in this thread again. What a wonderful experience. Good old Barlow tradition; hundreds of knives preserved for posterity.
A great thread is like the ocean's tide. You are not always sure what it will bring; but it always comes back, and the reliability of it is always a pleasant experience!

Charlie, I've had the old spearpoint Daddy Barlow for a few years but never had one of the smaller knives.

In chatting with my Russell contact some months ago he told me that the "single blade clip point spear is the benchmark Russell Barlow". Then he was good enough to go out and find one for me on the bay and examine it to make sure it measured up before sending it down to me.

It's good to have friends like that and I am surely in his debt. The knife is a great little piece of Americana.

Here are a few additional images I just took on the deck:

Had to hunt around for this pic. Here's my Russell collection, Blues.
If you collect Barlows, Russell must be represented!

The second one is a bit worn, and the bottom one is a Camillus reproduction.

Just wonderful knives, waynorth. Thanks for letting us see them, and enjoy them.

Great Russells Cahrlie and Blues! Here's a new Schrade addition, "S" stamped bolster and S.C.Co tang. (threw the other in to keep it company:D);
