That's a great 494, Ben! I can't seem to find one with any degree of blade integrity or restorability, though when I finally find one as nice as yours I imagine it'll be so worth it.

That page is full of all these nonsense characters, by the way. It's all Greek to me! :o :D

It's not all of them, but these are my favorites.

So awesome, both in content and composition!  Barlow Field in all its glory! :p Excellent stuff!

One of these things is not like the others.... :D

Yikes! Hide the outlier! Do not allow Jack to see this injustice! General quarters! Man the torpedoes!!!

Oh...wait...wrong thread. :p :D

Tremendous pictures, btmccutcheon! I struggle to compose multi-knife shots. I like what you've done here.

Thank you! There was a lot trial and error here.

There's a couple of oddities in there. Now I have to figure out where to squeeze in a WLST Barlow that is inbound. That's you're fault by the way.

I am not new to traditional slip joints, though I have never owned a Barlow. Seems like the Barlow is quite popular here on the BladeForums, and gets discussed often. I figured I would find out what all the fuss was about, and went ahead and ordered a Schatt and Morgan off the eBay:

I scanned through an assortment of styles, and saw this one - the jigged bone spoke to me and my wallet. This came with the box. Wow, I really like this knife. Had it for a week now, and it has replaced my favorite trapper as my EDC. Fantastic walk and talk, an authoritative snap, and it locks up like a vault. I get it guys... the Barlow is sweeet. From the pictures I always saw of the Barlow, it 'looked big' if that makes any sense. This is a very handy size, and rides well in the pocket.

Congrats on the pickup, that's a really nice example and quite a choice for a first one! I think I came at things from the other direction; it was a Barlow that first really got me hooked on slipjoints and only after I had gathered a decent little "family" of Barlows I started expanding my horizons into other traditional patterns. To this day, the Barlow is still my favorite and most-represented pattern in my collection. Like we say here on the porch, everything is better with a Barlow! :D

I recognize most of those, Randy, but what's that darker one 2nd from the left on the bottom row?

Great Barlow group shot!

A Clauss #51. Knives from Challenge, Case, Queen and Robeson were branded with the Clauss stamp over the years, and I'm sure some others as well. The Fremont, OH location indicates this knife is post-1917 and I believe the latest it could have been produced was 1967. Can't narrow it down much further without more research and a little luck.

A better look at the pattern number on the pile side of the master and the angled bolsters from the top. At first glance they seem like the straight-junction half-egg bolsters of a Kutmaster/Utica, but these "angle in" towards the scales as you trace the edges towards the liner -- a design I have not seen before.

Not the greatest condition but I'm still excited about this pickup, and I got it for a song.

Congrats on that impressive collection, btmac!:thumbup: What's the scrimshawed one at the upper left of the last picture?

Just ONE?? My old eyes see something unique about almost every single Barlow in that shot! I'd be interested in a survey of readers' opinions about which one they think is not like the others!! :D

Randy, your baker's dozen of Barlows is also the bees' knees!!:thumbup: (Do you have one re-handled in stag that I'm not seeing there, or am I thinking of someone else's knife? :o)

That's a Schrade out there old scrimshaw series and was made about 1978 or 1979 if my memory is right. The scrimshaw is of a raccoon which I got as a joke between myself and my girlfriend.

This isn't the knife but is a picture of one like it.

This came in the mail today. It's unused (2 dot from 1978) and a real nail destroyer. It's the most solid feeling folder I have as of late.
