I got my naked busstr in this afternoon. I have put a set of orange glow in the dark burlap scales on it. They are square just now, so I need to round or profile them a little to make it comfy, but it is together and fitted and working nicely. My first impression is very favorable. It is a little bigger than I expected, but that is a good thing. There is a lot of utility in this thing for sure and a real winner. Thanks Steve, I am definitely glad to have ended up with one. I'll post some pics tomorrow. I laid up some purple denim and some purple cotton stuff. It is all packed up and will go in the mail in the morning.

Thanks again,

-Todd

Here I figured you'd be a while gettin' to it. Guess you couldn't wait. Can't blame you really. They seem to be hard to put down once you get one together and ironed out. There is a lot of uses for such a great cutter/slicer no doubt about it.

Mine looks great!! I bet it will get even better with use. Mmmmmmmm- Red folder.

I'll square up with you right away!

P.S. Could you tighten up the blade to two hand opening tightness or remove the blade for shipping here to not give customs any reason to add one to the "customs collection".

Its tight and in the mail my friend. Let us know when you get it.

Thanks

I suppose I should have rotated the pics...here it is. I'll need to make up my mind on finishing it up, there needs a little more relief around the thumb stud, and my clip holes are off a touch, so no clip just yet. I ran out of steam and time last night.

I am not sure if I want to round the edges similar to the rest of the bussSTRs, but I think I have enough material to do a kinda fish shaped contour with a palm swell. We'll see.

I'll try to capture some glowing pics later...it has the bright green glow powder in and is fairly obvious in the dark:D

My BusSTR is a glowSTR :)

This thing will be very handy and I just know I will get a lot of use out of this simple and elegant folder. My Scout council forbids sheath knives, so I expect this will be my primary carry on Scout outings, if not in general. It may be a little big for an EDC (I prefer something in the small sebbie size), but I'll try it.

I thank you very much Steve!
(PS-expect a PM in a little bit)

Oh...did anyone mention that these things are wicked sharp? :)

Lookin' good FOD. I rather like the square look personally. It almost looks textured as well which I find appealing.

It goes well with the rough sawn bare bones get after it user character of the model's presence and feel IMO.

The thumb studs, as I pointed out on a page way back, were the same order number as the old ones but they no longer are the same length. Where you see the biggest challenge is thinning down that thumb ramp to access the stud. It needs tapered down further to blend it well from what I've gathered in doing the ones I've pulled off. Most of the trend is to make short just barely long enough studs anymore so they don't stick out too far and catch the pocket when extracting the folder. Personally I'd rather have them too long and be able to shorten them than too short but not much I can do about it unless I find one longer somewhere.

Thanks!

I don't dislike the square look...I may leave it and see if it grows on me...I sometimes tend to mess with things til I mess them up permanently. They are smooth with no texture (600 grit hand sand), just the look of the burlap. I'll get the clip on and try this way for a bit.

Teacher yours is finished. I'll have to snap pics of it later because I barely had time to finish it before the wife caught me and reminded me that I promised to take her to visit a friend of hers that just got out of the hospital. So, I'll be out of pocket the rest of today since its in a town about an hour or so from here.

Woodysone I'll be on yours tomorrow and its coming along so I hopefully can get it done tomorrow. If not I expect to be very close if I have my way and I usually do with my projects. ;) Been trying to take advantage of the great warm weather we are having. Going to get up to 80 degrees today. Figures. If I had not promised the wife I'd travel today it would be 26 degrees and uncomfortable in the shop.

Steve,

The very last thing I would do when dealing with you is "worry" about anything. :D

You, as well as your work are both "top notch"....

The short thumb stud was driving me nuts: I replaced it with a threaded knurled standoff from the 7 year bin. I put a cut down button head on top to finish it off. looks alright and feels perfect.

I wonder if you could shim the short ones up with washers? I did not have any that size, but I would have tried that first if I did.

It was out of my control. If you look at the first post of my own folder you can see the screw heads for the body construction. The pivot is an older barrel and screw set sold under the same exact order number as the others yet the screws on the one on the barrel used in the pivot are bigger in diameter heads than all the rest. They are all 2-56 and they are all T-6 but you can see the diff with the naked eye.

I've had other times where I ordered something I have ordered before and use only to notice that the screw is no longer a 2-56 but a 1-70 and no longer a T-6 but a T-5 driver now. My original thought when I noticed that the same order number for textured studs yielded a shorter stud now was to order some 3/16" pivot barrels from Knifekits that took 2-56 screws but of course those are no longer made. I was going to just make my own thumb studs the length I wanted using those but once again suppliers changed stock on me.

Thanks Steve for the update, i have been watching this tread closely and all pictures that you have posted are better then expected. Please let me know when we need to square up. Would love to see a picture in you blog when completed, but I sure I will get more out of having it in hand. Martin

I know; I saw the post and I understand. My apologies if I came across as critical. This was not my intent.

I am very happy with this knife and I will be hard pressed to carry something else for while, even tho it is a bit larger than I am used to carrying.

Thanks Again!

After a bit of adjustment and a spot of graphite lube, this is as smooth a folder as I own...including my sebbie. Locks up tight and cuts like a dream.
Great work STR!

Enjoy that knife.

Chuck I posted a few shots of your teal one on my blog.

Thanks for looking.
