Basic Urban Survival Folder

Seems like everybody want a lanyard hole- I don't usually use them but seems like it might be easier to just do them all. I'll take a the hole in mine.

Lanyard hole for me Steve.
Black Linen Micarta would be preferred, but ... Teal would be fine also.
Thank you.....

PS / Is it time to go ahead and pay? I just don't want to be late on that.... I have been pretty busy lately and am not online very much.

Thanks again..... :)

Going to have to be teal. I only had enough black for one folder. Its spoken for.

No money yet please. Basically I have 17 orders to fill in the way of custom knives for folks and there is no way I'm taking money up front on that kind of situation. Considering that the most custom folders I've ever made in a year was 20 and usually 15 or less (not including the production work I do every year) this is a major order for me that will take time so money now would not be fair to those down the list or even up top and would stress me out. Some are trades and or other arrrangement deals so those are being done later too as I get the ones being paid for finished. I need to get them done first for each individual and then when I post here or contact you guys you can pay then. ;)

Ok the current situation: Right now I'm working on Detour's green linen BUSTR which is together and going well so far. I just need to contour the handle scales, set the detent ball, make the low rider he elected to pay extra for and drill the lanyard and the first mid-tech BUSTR folder is done!

EDIT: Update. Since this post I've finished the low rider for this one, the clip for one other and custom cut the barrels for the body assembly to the right lengths. Just need to set the detent and bead blast tomorrow on this green linen one and then test it out to see how it all feels to me.

I also cut out three more sets of micarta scales today, one red linen, and two teal to get to those using the Cobbler blades so those are waiting to contour and I'll just do that on all five sets just made when I get to the first ones. Then sometime later when I get Christof's blades I'll have to put those on the table and prepare for those in the next ones.
Thanks

Thank you Steve.. Teal is just fine.

No problem on the $$ either Steve..... I just did/do not want to be dragging around in that department IF it was due. :D

Will keep checking back as often as possible....

Thank you sir........ ;)

Awesome!!! Just send me the total and I'll mail you a check. I got the skirmish and Blade Tech back today too. The clip is just what I wanted. Thanks. I'd love to post pics but haven't done that here before. Can I use Photobucket for that?

Photo Bucket, ImageShack or others should work fine. Click the yellow square with two Pyramids in it when making a post. Its the one that when you run your mouse over it that shows the ID for 'Insert Image' and copy and paste the link to that window when it pulls up from clicking that. That should insert the image to your new post in your new thread.

Thanks

May I ask what size thread you are using on these?

I am asking because I happen to have a surfeit of 2-56 screws just now.

Thanks.

2-56 throughout on these that fit the T-6 drivers.

Ok I've got all but one set of the scales cut out and the only reason I don't have that one is due to not hearing from Chukokujin since getting things going. Not really sure what happened with AJ either but hopefully they'll chime in here. I cut out a set of extra teal scales since thats what I happen to have the most of currently.

All my detent ball holes are drilled and I've spotted my lanyard holes. I'm just drilling all of them. On a knife of this type I think its worth having personally.

Detour as I told you earlier in another thread you started on your Blade Tech, I've got very little left on yours and its all done. Actually I'm even closer to the finish line on yours than when I said that because its all done except for the clip which I elected to remake as discussed. I'll do that tomorrow.

I have all 9 of the remaining BUSTR folders laid out on the bench to get to and I figure I'll put the lanyards in the scales and liners tomorrow and then coutour all the scales at once. Once thats done I'll set the KMG back up for shaping the blades and get to that and the hardware and be on my way to trying to do all of them back to back as I can get to the steps needed.

In the end you'll all get a hell of a deal on a mid tech custom level folder that is so highly usable I think you'll be absolutely amazed at what you are getting for the money. Thats my hope anyway. It stops after these committed to though because I'll be out of blades. Also, I have realized that even with Dave's help this is still a lot of steps and handwork that amounts to more than I anticipated so you guys really did well to get on board here. I doubt I'll be talked into doing these again at this price point. ;)

Anyway, in case you are wondering what you all should be getting if I have my way it will look something like this here.

Seen here is my original brown canvas BUSTR that started it all and of course its side by side with the 1st of these with the help of Dave Curtis at Great Lakes Waterjet for this thread. I've also included a shot of the anatomy curve of the handle scales to give you an idea of what to expect in your own. Its pretty much the same on both ends thanks to my slack belt. This first BUSTR folder for Detour is in green linen. Just scans for it for tonight but maybe in sunlight if I remember I can snap a digital or three before it mails out once I mount a tip down carry right hand low rider pocket clip on it after making that up tomorrow. Thanks guys.

Detour I'm ready to square up with you on your folder whenever you are.

Here are some pics with the digital that I snapped pretty quick being that its a bit on the cold side today compared to the 70s its been these last two days.

Anyway, I don't know that I'll sacrifice a lot of memory space for more digitals of the rest of you guys folders as I get them finished up. I may put more in my blog though since space there is not an issue for me. I'll leave any posted here on my forum to you if you so desire but I figured it was worth posting some of this first one. These digitals take a lot of kbs to load up so forgive that I only loaded three.

Thanks for looking

Wow, very nice looking Steve! Great work, can't wait for mine. Man I wish I could have got in on that green linen! I have wanted a scandi folder for quite a while, and this looks like a great one.

Thanks. I'm working on the red linen one right now and see yours will coming up after a few so no worries. I'll get her done. I'm making a lot of progress on all of them actually as what I've done here is change tactics just a bit and try to knock out steps along the way en mass as I try to get to the finish line. Hopefully what I'll end up with is a situation where I'm assembling them one behind the other bead blasting multiples after another and so on. I may be forced to take at least a day here to clean the shop from all this so far. My shop is such a mess right now.

I think you'll love having a scandi folder my friend. This blade is what sets the knife apart from my others in my opinion. I'm sure Koyote's blades will be wonderful also but to me this knife has taken on somewhat of a favored spot in my arsenal of users. Ironically I just bought a $500 ($341 US) folder that I had ordered last Sept. I think it was. I finally got the call about a month or so ago that it was done and squared up with him and much as I love that folder I'm carrying this 'rough sawn' user. Go figure.

I guess this little BUSSTR is akin to that really great kitchen knife that no matter the fact that you have fifteen others in the drawer when you are getting ready to do something in the kitchen you'll pull that favored one out of the dishwasher and clean it just because it works the best and is the one you like. Thats how I see it in my mind anyways. This blade just makes shorter work with less effort than about anything else I could select. As a result its been with me since getting it back from Dave. Guess I didn't realize how much I missed it! :)

Steve, that looks great !

I have read over this thread quickly and if I missed what I am about to ask/say... my apologies. :o

IF, a clip is an option... I would like one on mine please.

Thank you,

Thanks. I'll take it when I can get it, I love the design.

As I said earlier I did not put a clip in the price when I calculated it. My low riders add the standard $30 to add that in. If you still want one guys I need to know because I made up what I had in the way of needs and changed out the blade on my band saw from metal cutting to micarta cutting thinking I'd cut out all the clips I needed for this run.

My band saw is very persnickedy when it comes to adjusting it anymore so its not the quick job it used to be since it tends to need fussing with to get right from one blade to the next. I guess its getting old too! :barf:

Anyway, if you do want a clip please add the additional $ and also I need to know tip up, or down and what hand carry you want.

Thanks
