Basic Urban Survival Folder

Actually my wife just said what I should do is just have a contest to name it and the one that comes up with a name for it that best fits by popular vote after the contest wins a free folder. In other words get the whole forum involved but I'm not sure what do you think?

???

Good point.

I'll still do a give away later with one though since I was planning that anyhow. The more I think about it the more I'm looking forward to working with some of your blades. I mailed out the tang and cut out in card paper of the blade shape to shoot for today.

STR,

I'm really not so tied into the name game with blades as u can name a knife anything, but, have noticed its a trend amongst others. Don't really care what u call it as long as its useful in its given place, and yes, a knife will wear many different hats in use. NO Argument there from me.

I am thinking from where I am (NYC) which is unlike "urban" of lots of other places which are still rural to me and not to others. My mistake, as I'm usually the only few out of many who see it that way. Many are in gun friendly states and I think LOADS tend to forget that when they say SD for a blade is secondary. This is my observation from comments made here over the years.

Your wisdom of lock structure and design are way more than enough in terms of marketability. As always, if others dont see it... its their loss....

The more I see it, I think I really have to do some bartering with you at some point. Maybe send u bulk material for your work if its cool with you.

Maybe the name BUSTR knife (Basic Urban Tactical Survival Roundabout knife) would sound more appropriate in these times.

Tell that to the missus.

Oh now that thar is a good one. I like BUSTR a lot! Whole lot actually. I'd say Basic, Urban, Survival, Tactical, Rural, no make that "Ranch".

And I especially like the convenient way the last three letters are "STR"

Could almost spell it buSTR that way huh?

Yes STR,

I wanted to integrate your name and give it a "spin" at the same time, but.. alas, I'm only human...:o

Glad u like the name though.

I really do. In fact I think we have a new name in the works. That fits well with me my friend!

Oh and about the thought that some of us in gun friendly states forget. I suppose you are correct. Oklahoma is great in that regard. I mean I've carried around my new Tarus "The Judge" without a second thought pretty much all over this winter and literally every friend I have is fully armed all the time so to me its just typical for the out west attitude. Spoiled I guess but to me thats how it should be. I grew up in West Virginia where my dad picked me up at school in the truck that usually had two or three guns in the rack in the back window and where on the first day of deer season school closed because all the students, teachers and faculty were hunting!

Knowing where you live I see now where you are coming from.

Oops,

My fault with the typo. I meant BUSTR(BASIC URBAN SURVIAL TACTICAL ROUNDABOUT knife), not BUTSR. Yes, buSTR is very good too as an option.

Still love the job u did on my CUDA 7 and Dejavoo. Shoulda had u mark it as the first you worked on.:) I have 2 more Dejavoos and am debating frame locking them.

CCW is priviledge more than a right here. Kudos to u who have it.

I understood what you meant. No worries.

BUSTR is the new name though. I rather like the way it rolls right off nice and neat.

Anyway, I'm busy at the moment so it would be a few before I get it out to you if you were to do that with the others. The good news is that lock on the first one should fit any of them just fine.

I think you know how to reach me if and when. I have a feeling that I'll be pretty busy with quite a few of these BUSTR folders before long though so I may be putting a hold on some other things so I don't get backed up.

I religiously stop taking on new orders once I get 4 or 5 months out and always have so as to not get sideways with people about turn around times. If they really want the work I figure they'll come back when its reasonably safe to suspect a fairly quick return. Most do so far so its worked for me. I figure thats coming again here soon but I never sit for long before I start knocking things out and gettin' after it in the shop. It helps when I'm healthy though. Here lately my tennis elbow has flared up again. Thats a royal PITA!

Put me down for one BUSTR!! :)
Tnx, Steve!!

Damn! I keep hitting the wrong button. Again my bad my friend. Need to wake up.

Call it what you want, I'd call it damned handy

Brick red denim, or carhart brown, or that camo yarn you did for me....

 Khaki canvas would work too

I've never been opposed to barter when it benefits both parties.

If the economy keeps going in the tanker we may end up doing that for a lot more than stuff like this down the road. Never know.

Let discuss this, please. I'll send you a sample around the first of the year. I assume 1/8" is about right?

STR,

Hey Fod, how about a demin clip/laminate instead a blued clip? Food for thought?

I thought that was what I said :D

My bad. I hit the wrong button and got into your post by mistake.

That looks great so far- very much like a folding Skookum!!! I think that I would be able to get one of these! Now to make sure that I do not miss one (mmmmm... red scales).

STR,

10-4. I'll reach u. Keep on trucking. I intend to fit the other ones (dejavoos) to yours. Tennis elbow... I've got it too.

Fod, re- read it, wonderin why it took so long for someone to think of laminate clips. Sorry if i missed it firstly.

Both can PM me for "urban" ideas.

I like the 1/8" in a folder I really do. It reduces my sanding to use that tremendously which actually reduces the cost by reducing the labor. I bead blast instead of hand sand too which does the same thing. I know some guys like that round handle look but I never have much. I don't mind shoe shining some with the slack belt a little bit to give that effect but using the thickness I prefer to keep from dusting up my shop I'm really not capable of doing a whole lot of that with my asthma the way it is. I may try doing some 3/16" and thicker in spring and summer when enclosure is not such a big issue though but for now I just ask everyone to keep in mind that my shop is without any real ventilation. I'm tapped out for big expenses with the new roof, KMG grinder, and other things I had to do this year to make the shop what it is so far. Ventilation is on the want list but thats as far as it goes at this point. Thanks

The problem isn't the dust while working its the lingering for days on end afterwards. You got it! Once I have some definitive orders and not just interest but still unsure takers I'll start making a list but right now I understand holding back until we know more.

I did buy up 21 of the Cobbler blades and since they have been discontinued and Ragnar has been selling old stock I don't suspect the remaining ones he has after I nearly wiped him out will last long. I expect that these will be the kind of blades you don't really appreciate until you use one. I know I sure liked it a lot but thats just old hat at this point.

Anyway, thanks and when I get some made up you'll be one of the first to know.

My mistake. I'll need to think about that one....I've been playing with some composite sheaths lately. Perhaps I'll lay some thin stuff up and see how it acts.

Got ya, Steve! Thanks!! I'm going to copy your post so I can use it against you later!! ;)

Kind of what I had in mind yes. Personally the canvas seems to have a better more grippy textured when bead blasted but you lose some of the looks I think. I'll more than likely do some in both though its just a matter of what comes out of the drawer you know.

Red is in there too in linen micarta though so I may but to be honest with you about that its sometimes been complained about for looking 'too pink' once I had to sand and clean it up by bead blasting it. It lightens considerably at first. Its true the oils from your hand and use will darken it but only where you can rub it. If there is a pocket clip on it then you'd have to remove that for a bit to get it rubbed down. So long as folks are aware of this that will probably work. The one shown for example in the first post is considerably darker almost orange/brown now compared to the very light shade of brownish tan it was right out of the blast cabinet.

Currently I have green linen and green canvas, black linen and black canvas, red linen, brown linen and brown canvas, teal canvas which is probably my favorite of the canvas and I figure I'll use at least some of that ranger green textured G10, coyote brown G10, and probably some textured black G10 before its over. I have some textured orange G10 in .080 thickness and I may even do one or more of those to thin the profile down even more. I also hear I can get another color textured green but I'm waiting to get word on that for price before saying its possible.
