Bass Pro Buck 110 w/CPM154

Heh! It's true, though! His people all wear them in the original leather belt pouches from birth. Actually, I think they get issued a 112 when they are babies because the weight of the 110 drags their diapers down too much. Once they are potty trained, they get a 110. :D

Okay . . .

I've gone to the Bass Pro Shops web site twice now with the intent of buying their CPM 154 Buck 110. Both times, I've changed my mind between putting it in my shopping cart and completing checkout. I keep remembering that I don't need it, and in fact I never even use my Cabela's AG Buck 110, which I also didn't need!

I'm treading the thin line between Buck appreciation and Buck addiction!

Ok gray horny one
AKA rhino,

Don't fight the addition.......roll with it ;). You owe it to yourself!!!!! Get the BP CPM 154, I'd like to hear your opinion on it!!!!! before I give in and get one.

I kept putting off my blade upgrade for similar reasons..."I can always get it done later"...look what happened... :(

Buy the BP 110 CPM 154 now, before they're gone for good!!! :grumpy:

It's funny... you never (or rarely) see a BP 110 or Cabelas AG 110 on the Big Evil E. People that have them must really like them!

ok so to be simple (for us laypeople) the cpm154 is really a 420 bumped to 440?...why not just use 440?

and ....why do I want one?

Rhino...you are over the edge. The line has been crossed. Accept the addiction and deal with it like a true Buckaholic. Lumakad dahil sa ito tauhan!
(Go for it man!) Sigi sigi na.

Don't know about your statement about CPM154 being 440 on steroids. I'll have to do some reading on the porcelain throne.
Check out this gig on steel: http://www.edcknives.com/pdf-files/Steel_v2.pdf

Why do you want one? So you can be cool like the rest of us LOL. ;)
Who the hell knows why I have one that I have never used along with the rest of my tiny herd.
There is no logic.
Give in.
Learn it.
Love it.
Live it.

CPM154 = 440 :eek:

I love the cpm154, I am sorry I waited sooo long to buy it!
Its way better than 440 :D
Well said Gooser :D

ok I got the impression people think its better....but in what way? ease to sharpen hold an edge, stronger against breaking etc in other words higher carbon content??????
If it boosts 420 up then is it 440 or 440+? Or is it really just making a polished look closer to the look of maybe a bead blast

inquiring pain in the ass minds want to know;)

AHhh its all just personal preference!
I like the 420HC more than the 440 but again thats just me!
The CPM154, S30V, BG-42 and ATS-34/154CM all hold their edge better than the 400 series steels, check out Buckaholics link! As long as it looks like a Buck knife, cuts like a Buck knife, and is stamped Buck I like 'em!
I EDC 420HC as well as ATS-34, 154cm, CPM154, and S30V, they all have their place, and all cut well!

Oh yeah its more than polishing of the blade too you can polish almost any of them! also if you use them as a pry bar they ALL will break, they are hardened steel not pry bars :D
They (ats-34, 154CM,cpm154, BG-42, S30V) hold an edge longer and are "easy" not easier to sharpen :D

I think a lot like you I'm going to buy across the board, but if someone asked me I would not have a confident answer

Here's a link on the Buck site about steels. Doesn't reference 440 though.
I like the graph. Does someone know a link to a graph that shows a more inclusive list of steels?
http://www.buckknives.com/technical_steel.php
.

Went through the Buck page again and noticed that it shows it is rated as the same as BG42 though they do ad that it retains the edge better (higher carbon content) and that makes it good for heavy use in cutting. Now that is a good start to the answer.

Thanks for the link Goose. I like the table at the bottom of the page that shows the relative "ranking" of each steel Buck currently uses. I only wish they would list some other common steels used in the industry as a reference.
