Batoning ESEE 5 into Becker BK-2 and vice versa !!

Great test - thanks for sacrificing two very cool blades for science!!

However, I wasn't surprised by the results at all. Not because I expected the ESEE to take less damage, but because I fully expected the knife that was on top being hit by the hammer to win. Just seems to be a matter of physics to me. First, you have the force coming from the top, and probably have some hard to see "micro" bounces turning the hammer and ESEE into a mini "jackhammer". Secondly, you didn't have the BK2 securely in the vice and it would lose ground further enhancing the "jackhammer" effect.

Great experiment that could potentially put this "king of the hill" contest to rest, but it is only 50% complete. You need a 2nd video showing the BK2 on top and the ESEE on the bottom.

Seeing the other half of this test would put it to rest in my mind who was king of the hill (at least king of being able to drive one blade edge through another).

As of this moment, the jury is still out...

He said he did it and the Becker still lost.

I did flip them. Made no difference. The ESEE just stood there and the Becker kept losing ground.

Already did it. Made no difference. But, I have no problem with making a sequel. It will be up in an hour or so.

The Becker was in the vise as tight as possible. I was really whacking the ESEE. I'm going to see if I can put a block under the knife to keep it from slipping down.

Right. Not that I don't believe him, but the point of posting the video is proving the claim.

Since he has already destroyed two very fine blades, he might as well have conclusive results for all to see. Right now the only test we can see for ourselves is tilted in the ESEE's favor.

:barf:

I think I'm gonna be sick. Tom, you must be made of Iron. I couldn't have brought myself to do that with a Mora and an S&W knife...

God bless,
Adam

I found myself wanting to close my eyes when you went for the first hit lol. Very interesting results though!!

From what I could see, it did look like the ESEE did fare a bit better. But, I do think that if you continued, there would be an end point where the Becker would not be penetrated any further and the ESEE would take a little more damage getting to that end point. I respect both products and the men and companies behind them. I think in the end, unless you are batoning steel, neither one would fail you in the field. Interesting video and thanks for posting!
Cheers

I understand that you are trying to prove a point.
I'm not sure what it was, they both are missing metal.
I like esee and becker, both are great knives esee just costs 120% more.

Well played sir. I would say I cringed, but that would be unfair to the fainting I did.

Those Becker scales up for grabs?

oh man, u just ruined it for me..i was going to buy me a BK2 soon..i dont want that junk anymore.haha just playin beckerheads..im still planning on getting one.

I've since added the sequel video showing the ESEE in the vise and batoning the Becker. Seems the "Jackhammer" theory is kaput. ESEE is ready for action, Becker is ready for trash compaction.

For the price, the BK2 held up well thats for sure. Other knives in that price range would have taken a dance across the floor on the first few whacks.

you say you love ESEE knives in your video and that is what you do!!this is how you show it!! I hope you don't love your wife with the same passion!they have places called prisons
to keep your loving hands away so no one gets killed.I hope your to embarrassed to sent this in for warranty.this is clearly above and beyond hard!just stupid stupid stupid grow up!!and look at yesterdays thread http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=813539 and see the over all thoughts about people who do this kinda thing just sad!

Exactly - as this is pure abuse, this shows that both knives are capable of all typical knife type tasks you throw at them, and a bit more. If you need more than a bit more, and are willing to pay for it, go for ESEE - but you can't go wrong with either.

Really?

All I wanted to do was add a couple serrations to my ESEE. Mission accomplished. Also, I said I'd put "my money" where my mouth is. Not ESEE's money. To even insinuate I'd send it back is ludicrous. Would not have even crossed my mind. Clearly crossed yours though.

I’m going to put it in my collection display case. It is a keeper.

Not to stick my nose in, but seriously, all those talking trash about him doing this, they are his knives, and he can do whatever the heck he wants with 'em. Plain and simple. You don't have to like it. I for one am a die hard Becker fan, but this is at the very least interesting to watch, and yeah, informative too. He wanted to know, and instead of coming over to our neck of the woods and trying to battle 'ole Moose in a contest of will, he did the scientific thing and put his money where his mouth was and went for broke.

Kudos to you sir, and to all the haters, stop hatin.
