True that. I had the equivalent of a RatManDu LE courtesy of norcalblacktail before Swamp Rat released their factory version. Here's a pic of mine:

Beeeeaauuutiful!
Anyone know if NorCal still does Busse mods? I know he's making his own knives now but damn, he and Ban Tang could make some serious $$$ with the Custom Shop being MIA for the time being.i know I would send at least two of my Bussekin for the "Pro-Satin" treatment.
Until I get a grinder I'm limited to.... Hand sanding, the bane of my forearms.

Should be any time now...

I'm going to try and resist the SFNO since I don't have one...

Muuuuussssssst resist the SFNO..... I just bought another NMSFNO....muuuusssssttttt resist !!!

I also have an RMD Nate at NorCal did, I got it from him direct here a few years ago... full satin and laser sharp convex edge..... he can make steel sharp !!!!!!!

Oh yes he can. And it doesn't hurt to start with an alloy that sharpens beautifully to begin with. :)

No, all knives should be stripped, People will tell you it provides extra protection against rust, and it does, but if you take care of your knife it will be fine, SR 101- is good stuff

Words of wisdom right there, coatings make zero sense on cutlery…. that is unless of course you are looking to reduce cost for finishing as a manufacturer. In which case it makes perfect sense, I can't stand them personally and how vowed to not buy any more coated knives plain and simple.

How many japanese knives have you seen that are coated? German? Swiss?

Who do you usually send them to to get stripped and sharpened or reprofiled. I see alot of guys putting a convex edge on knives. Whats the advantage?

Stripping is generally a DIY job.
Convex edges are generally more durable, and offer better function for some tasks.
