The 25 miles aren't a bother to me, as I'd like to see the Biltmore mansion anyway. A quick search shows several nice hotels close to the Biltmore(oh, and there's a casino, too) ;)

I was down there not to long ago and stayed at said "Lodge". The folks who run the place were very nice and they had a great parking lot, and they were cheap....which is the only reason I stayed there. If your bringing your wife I recomend spending a few more bucks a night!;)
The name of the place makes it sound like a great little quaint retreat.
They have a looooong way to go.

Anyone wanting to stay at a really nice place in Asheville should check out The Grove Park Inn. I don't have any contact info in front of me, but I'm sure a web search would show them. If anyone is interested, and can't find the info, let me know and I will get it. From The Grove Park Inn, you will be 5 to 10 minutes away from Biltmore House and 30 minutes away from the hammer-in. And real close to the best sushi in Asheville!!

Anyone interested in the casino might want to consider Maggie Valley. There, you would be between Cherokee and the hammer-in.

Anyone wanting to beat Jim, can just put his anvil up on a stump at regular height and he won't be able to reach it.

I have just a few questions. Will Jason be forbidden from using Jedi mind tricks on Bert? Will the bucket be an ice cream bucket so Jim can pack it? And pertaining to Jim’s contest will miniatures be allowed?

I heard he was making a SHORT sword.

It's been a while since I've been on forums and just found this. You guys are having way to much fun. I look forward to hearing the results. In regards to accomodations I think Jim can just set a camp up in his suit case. I hear his suit case is like a mini travel trailer!

As much crap as your giving him you better cheat to win because he'll buy a computer and Internet just to gloat if he wins! My thoughts are with you Bill. You may need therapy and money for new tools when this is all done.

Josh, when I showed this thread to the folks at the college and told them what we had planned, they put a small block of rooms at the nervous hospital on hold!!

That didn't scare Rodebaugh. He said he had not been in a institution yet that could hold him......

Oh don't worry about Jim buying a computer, his college age son is a web designer and is retooling Jimmys website as we speak. I believe there is going to be a whole section devoted to gloating...don't worry, we'll be able to zoom in on pics to see the mini smith.

Note: if need be, Jim will hire the pony express to spread the word to anyone that doesn't have internet access.

I am surprised to see Mr Taylor has come out of the batcave to post. How come they couldn't lure HIM into this competition?

I have a computer IN the Bat Cave now. The light of day hurts my eyes .
There would have to be a reversal of the rules for me to compete. The one that took the longest would be the winner. I could outlast everyone.;)

Hey Guys,
Hope I'm not letting the cat out of the bag to early, but.......
I just happend to be on the phone with the NJ steel baron Aldo Bruno who is down at the NC hammer in. They were just announcing the winner of the iron bladesmith.
The word on the grapevine is Jason Knight took the win!!!
Congrats Jason!!!

(Now if I'm wrong y'all need to blame Aldo!;))

Now...someone PLEASE post some pics of this event!:D
Wish I had been there.

I was wondering! I'll bet it was interesting!

You are correct, Jason won a very close contest. The effort these four makers put out was utterly amazing. They are ALL winners in my book.

An extremely enjoyable and educational day.

Can't wait for pics of this event. Unfortunately, I had to cancel and couldn't make it. :(
