Battle Saw or ASHBM

The battle saw is almost a quarter pound lighter than the ASHBM at 25 ounces, and it just handles and balances perfectly! It bites DEEP and chews through wood like butter. The ASBH doesn't quite feel as nice in hand or chop as smoothly due to the extra weight / different balance. The battle saw also has the CBT, that plus a wider blade gives it another edge in performance over the ASHBM IMHO. The Saw sticks less in thick hardwood as a result of those two factors and is less likely to bind. The battle saw is a knife that feels and handles much lighter than it is.

Personally, I think if the ASHBM was similar in specs to the original SHBM (.25" thick, 10" blade, same width) it would perform and handle better than the ASHBM. I just think the ASHBM is bulkier than it should be and unduly large. I think it actually hurts its performance.

interesting theory. I think it depends on the user. For example a 5'8" 150lb guy may be able to chop better with a smaller blade than a 6' 200lb guy. But the ASHBM is no larger or heavier than most of the really large blades out there. I will say this, having a swedge put on it made a big difference. It handles much faster than my std ASHBM. But at the end of the day, with edge geometry being the same, the larger more forward balanced knife will hit harder. As long as you are strong enough to swing it easily. Just plain physics.

Rob do you like that you're decision is that much harder now? :D

Just doin our job! ;) ....

Rob, have you ever tried to saw a 2 x 4 with the spine of an ASHBM? :p

But in all seriousness, the notching capabilities or just all out sawing potential is a gamechanger in a single blade package...and the SHBM platform is precisely the model that can pull this off in a functional, practical, and totally useable knife.

This sawback ain't your Grandaddy's United Johnny Rambo self-contained compass, life raft, tent peg, survival knife extravaganza.

The Battle Saw....just.....works...

Get both, I just picked up an ASHBM Satin for the same price a Battle Saw is selling for in CG

I almost ordered the ASHBM when I was deciding which would be my first Busse, the TGLB won that argument. I'd pick the Battlesaw now though. Or heck can't go wrong with picking both.

Satin ASHBM for price of coated battle saw which is the only way they came is a no brainer. Naked is always better

Yes sir, could not agree with you more, To each his own, but now days I only buy the naked stuff-Cheers

Rob, simply purchase them Naked to begin with-easy solution Bro! Or strip immediately

Sorry bro, I bought the Satin ASHBM that was on the forum, Just could not take seeing a beautiful Satin ASHBM sit there-I have seen some nice Battle Saw strippers-There is one for sale now on pg 3 of the exchange I believe (Albeit a bit overpriced in my opinion) -would have to be stripped, has Black Coating with Tan and Black G10 handles-good luck you will find one
Agreed Tommy Boi ---- but I have to find a naked ASHBM or Battle Saw first

I should weigh this one and compare it to my others that have the long swedge to see the weight difference. It is amazing how much weight a swedge removes from a blade. Then again, it may not be much more than an ounce.

Alright --- well if someone has an ASHBM or Battle Saw that needs a new home --- you know where to find me . . .

Has anyone compared the TGLB to the Sarsquatch or the Steel Heart Ergo 2

My TGLB and Sarquatch both weigh 17 oz

Easy answer IMHO!!! :D I currently have 3 Battle Saws and 0 ASHBM's, if that says anything. The Battle Saw looks SOOOOO good stripped!!!

I hate to throw a wrench in the works...but I find the Battle Saw to be the coolest release since the NMFBM :foot:

ASHBM meets cgFBM meets Rambo knife. EPIC!

I couldn't agree more!!! I actually think the Battle Saw looks WAY cooler than *any* Busse release in the past 15 or more years!

Very well said, and my thoughts exactly. The Battle Saw has the rarity factor going for it too. In another year or so, they will be nearly impossible to find. While we will never know exact numbers, I'm sure there were a LOT more ASHBM's made based on how long they were available if nothing else.

You do realize that for a knife like that to be properly insured, shipping/insurance/fees/etc. add up to ~$50, and maybe a little more, right? Just something to keep in mind. ;)

The secondary market is softer than it has ever been with all of the O2W releases. I've seen many sales on new knives where in order to move a knife quickly, the seller is losing a decent amount of money by the time you factor in shipping and insurance. This is killing the flippers, and I'm OK with that! :D
