BB gun blues...

I was just making a point that while you may consider gamo airguns entry level they are still pretty nice for the money. Everything is relative. I never really liked shooting airguns because I did a lot of smallbore pistol and rifle competitions and it just never appealed to me. Most people I shot with considered it a tool to move up to smallbore shooting or for countries where firearms are prohibited. The man who killed a deer with that airgun would be a criminal in many if not all states. Yes the .22 bullets are much much heavier, but they have a very limited range, excluding the SSS which is accurate to about 100 yards. A crossman 760 will shoot a pellet further than a super colibri (no powder, just primer). They are not even recommended for shooting out of rifles because they won't clear out of longer barreled rifles, but I have shot them out of 16" barrels and they go about 20-30 yards and are very good for pests in the 5-10 yard range.

Crosman 357

Anybody have any experience with it?

Actually I had one of those about 10 years ago. It was pretty accurate and fun to shoot. Buy lots of CO2!!! I think I paid about 50 for it at Wal-Mart.

I just saw this now...

Quality airguns are a big step beyond the toy quality stuff. To treat the airgun as a step up is an odd view for a target shooter. There is something in us all that tends to like power etc but from a strictly target shooting/sport view a quality target airgun is every bit as challenging and even more accurate within its range than a rimfire. As far as the guy with the .22 airgun killin a deer I believe he was in texas and I don't doubt it is illegal in most areas and I think it should be! As far as gamo goes.... some of thier stuff is ok but like knives there is a cost to gain the long lasting and quality performance possible. To some like here the cheap stuff works fine. To others quality and performance are worth a bit more. My only concern is alot of people are turned off to airguns by the experiences thay get with the cheaper guns in the form of rough firing behaviors and performance. It is a fun sport/hobby in and of itself.

There have been formal target matches with standard .22 rimfire out to 200 yards that I know of. The range of danger is farther than that even. The SSS are nothing too special although they hold a bit more ooomph at long range. They are not a "super solution" - just an option.

A super colibri will travel farther than 30 yards... Accurately no but they will go farther......

I'm curious shot out of what? Not out of a p22 or a 10/22 with a 16" barrel or a 10/22 with a 22" barrel.

edited my post above...the link no longer worked...now has a pic..

Anyway, my gripe with the crosman 357 is that it's pellets only. I really like the ease of BBs...

Are there no decent BB guns out there? (prefer pistol, under $80)

id go with that last one. had the .357...i am just a fan of power...hated having to buy the co2....i had a single shot barrel-brech cocking pistol that was very powerful. I am a pellet gun nerd so wont go much below 600-750fps pistol and at least 1000fps rifle if at all possible. I like when what I shoot sticks into tres rather than bouncing off....i love pellets due to the kinds available...wadcuters, spear points, even some hollow tips that are awesome....pistols are far less accurate in air power unless a target model unless youre within say 20 feet.

I had both the 1377 and the crossman 357.
I'd buy another 1377. The screw that holds the bolt together on mine sheared during some long weekend in the woods in the middle of the winter.
Other wise it rocked. No co2 to buy and you could lob them out or rocket the pellets along.

The .357 was a dawg.
In fact all 3 were dawgs.
I brought them all back (40 miles each way) because within a couple of weeks the break top wouldn't lock up.
When I showed up the 3rd time the guy said after this, send it to them.
After that one stopped locking up I gave it to my BIL.
Granted that was back when they first came out. Maybe they are better now. Figure the late 80's.
Buying CO2 all the time is a PITA too. They always run out at the wrong time.

Holy crapola!

Feinwerkbau 601

that brought a smile to my face. I used to so shoot an Original 66. I couldnt affoed the 601. :(

Daniel, get a real air gun or you are going to be frustrated and dissapointed.

Oh and buy English or German only, the rest is shite.

Try this one. Powerful, accurate, and dead cheap. Don't get me wrong, this is a china cheapie to be sure, but amazing for the price. Mine was MOB (minute of bird) accurate out of the box. Single shot, lead pellets only. The pistol advertised one page back from there sucks, though.

The crosman 1377 is excellent as well. My father had one when I was a kid. Big fun.

I have that exact same rifle. It is pretty accurate, and I was able to mount a decent scope on it. I still need to sit down and properly sight it in.
For the money, it can't be beat. It is also as heavy as many real firearms, with wood and metal instead of plastic. I stuck a sling on mine.

I have used the supers in 10/2,TC contender, remington pump,Ruger SS and a cz 452 nd while not accurate beyond the ranges you mention, if elevated the bullet will travel further than 100 ft.

Here you go. Anything less is crap. Oh and get some nice shooting clothes from them too. After that you can get a good coach and then, and just then, might you be able to plink some cans. Eh you might as well buy a maserati in matching color since you've just dropped 3k+ on a new airgun.

I have owned match Anschutz air rifles as well as still own a 1913 super match .22. Until you are at the national level or above, you would think guns like this are absurd. Then you learn that top shooters shoot during the rest periods of their heartbeats, and that the difference between first and 20th is 1 point.....theres a reason for air rifles like that!

We used to put peas on toothpicks and use them for practice at 50 yards.
