BB gun blues...

I have owned match Anschutz air rifles as well as still own a 1913 super match .22. Until you are at the national level or above, you would think guns like this are absurd. Then you learn that top shooters shoot during the rest periods of their heartbeats, and that the difference between first and 20th is 1 point.....theres a reason for air rifles like that!

We used to put peas on toothpicks and use them for practice at 50 yards.

I have shot several anschutz rifles before when the amu team came to visit my old tem. We did most of our shooting with old winchester target rifles. Most of us were probably not good enoug to get that little difference in accuracy out of the anschutz, but oh well the difference in price and performance are only worth it if you've got some serious money on the competition. It was a little more consistent.

Shot a Steyr LG100 and an Anschutz on a recent trip to Europe. Both way better than my shooting. The steyr in particular is completely "dead" when you fire, no recoil, no nothing - just anoise and a hole in the target (or near the target in my case). Amazing kit.

I recently purchased one of these, online for $60 total price. I am very pleased, accurat, dependable and decent trigger.
Being a pump you can adjust your power. It is single shot ,but accurate enough that you only need one shot. :D
I have little airgun experince but have shot guns all my life.
My opinion, :) Co2 guns are always empty when you want that quick shot at a varmint.

also considering the Crosman 1377...because of the power...but kind bummed it is only a single-shot.

It's very tempting indeed....

I have three greivances with bb/pellet guns:

1 - reloading
2 - pumping
3 - replacing CO2 cartridges

And this one hits two of 'em....:(

Everything's a compromise, I s'pose.

Actually NO there ARE other reasons that make it "worth it" . It is like the difference between a benchmade/spyderco and something along the lines of a sebenza. There are little differences that add to the experience that you may not appreciate or value but others may and do. As you said consistancy is one area and there are others too for those who like precision tools. That is the beauty of these toys and knives. There are price/performance values all across the board....

Oh god those target rifles are unforgivably ugly. Pure function over asthetics. Of course I can appreciate a nice firearm, but my appreciation would be better had towards a DAKOTA or something of the like.

Hey Guys...

A .50 cal Air rifle!!! Yikes... :)
Must be a Dragon Slayer!!

I'm shooting some mid range air rifles..
Diana 350 Magnum in 5.5mm, Diana mod 48 in 4.5mm and a Feinwerkbau 600 in 4.5mm.

The Diana 350 is a Crittr Gittr for sure,,and have whacked many rabbits and tree rats with it this last fall .. The FWB 600 is a tack driver that knocks match heads off a 25 yards,, but is not a killer...

Hey Tallpaul...

WoW it's a Quackenbush...

Lucky bastid...

Us airgunners dream of $hit like that...
Hope you got a scuba tank to feed that bad boy...

Do you get your pellets from pelletman or cast your own ??

Yaa the 350 is the killing machine out of the two...The FWB only sees pop cans or paper.. I'm sure it will kill however I really don't want to risk an injury just yet..
I just got done re-building it,,so I'm still getting use to the rifle somewhat...

The optics on both are Airmax. The FWB sports a 5X20 by 50mm AO in mildot,, and it's a wonderful scope to have on that rifle.. A little over powered, but I can count the holes in paper from 35 yards...

I'd love to shoot an air rifle like yours one day....
It actually has enough power to kill deer, and blow Huge holes through small game.. A coyote wouldn't stand a chance against one,, thats for sure...

Thanks for sharing,,Awesome gun..

Daniel -

All of my experience here is from shooting these as a kid in the late 70's / early 80's. All of this input is from the department store youth aisle and not match shooting.

I had the 1377 pistol and loved it. Much more accurate thanthe pistols that the other kids had... And, darn you, after reading this thread, I want one again!

The Crossman pump rifle you bought - I'm also surprised it is having accuracy problems. I had one and it was always very respectable. Most of my buddies had this Daisy Pump and I was usually jealous. They looked a little nicer, seemed to pump a bit more power, and were just a little bit more accurate. They were also less like to pinch my 10 year old finger when pumping compared to the Crossman! :o

I gotta stop reading these threads... I spend too much money as a result. ;)

Eric- I fell into that DQ. A friend of mine passed away and his kids needed money and had very little interest in the guns he had. I actually got several from them. That DAQ,and a FWB 124 deluxe and a dianna 75 match rifle. I have shot the .50 very little and only with hornady RB. I do cast for other stuff so if I ever get serious for that gun I will likely.I only hand pump at he moment. I may get Dennis to supply me the muzzle loader adapter for it and try a deer next year. I started with a hw 50 deluxe many moon ago. after twenty somethin years I searched for and bought that FWB601. I bought a set of rings for it but still use the target sights. I only bought the guns from my friends estate because I had always liked the guns and could not pass them up. The dianna was in need of a rebuild so it went to Randy Bimrose in california for a fix. You said ya rebuilt your 600? What did you do to it? I have redone a couple HW's so far.
Airguns- yet another addiction.....

Update time...

FWIW, I went out and got the Daisy 880 (comes with a scope). It's pretty decent and much better than the crosman, but I'm still not happy with the accuracy. Seems to be rather hit-n-miss (no pun intended).

So, I'm now willing to spend a little more to get better quality...

I'd still like to get a pistol...and after having read countless reviews, etc...I'm thinking about these:

Hey Guys...

Tall paul..

Your a lucky guy to get a Quakenbush...
They are Very much collectable..

The Russian "Izzy" is a nice gun a well,,very accurate...

Dan...

As far as the other pistolas go...

The 2240 would be my pick out of the bunch,, only because there can be Soooooo much done to them it's not funny...

We take a stock 2240, do a valve jpb, spring job and porting/flow job on it and are getting 600+ FPS out of them.. They are Alot of fun to work on and parts are Cheap..Theres also alot of aftermarket custom parts for them as well..Everything from custom breaches to trigger, valve jobs and muzzle brakes..

Here are some examples of some pretty neat guns who started life off as plain jane 2240 stock, out of the Blister pack pistolas...

If you want something to play around with and do a little tuning and airsmithing,,the 2240 is the stock pistola to start out with...

Eric- yep I like that quackenbush but should sell it. I don't use it. I actually left a gun I got off him off my list- I knew I was forgettin one ;) I also got a tx200 mkIII which is awesome too. I think I like the FWB 124 the best and shoot it a fair amount. The 2240 would likely be my choice of the bunch daniel listed. The IZZY is nice and I firmly believe everyone NEEDS to treat themselves to an accurate air gun to practice with. My airguns are like my knives- I have way too many nice ones and some specialized ones- what a problem to have huh :D

how hard is it to mount a scope to the 2240?

where can I buy accessories?

These have good reputation:
http://www.crosman.com/site/listing/1100
Of course they don't have the greatest power, but supposedly they are well made and have decent accuracy.

Edit: the Webley Hurrican has also a very good reputation. But if you are really interested in accuracy for an incredible price you want the Baikal IZH-46 (Izzy). I don't know what it currently goes for, but it is in the price range of the better plinkers, while the accuracy is in the range of a full fledged target pistol. You can even mount a scope, you would have to shop around a bit to find mounts, but it is possible, I have seen it done. Good luck!

Another edit: My two favorite Airgun places on the internet are www.straightshooters.com and www.airgunsofarizona.com. The later site is pretty aweful, but they are good people with very, very good prices. Best to give them a call though. From my quick check the IZH-46 seems to run around $200.

I believe they are closer to 260.00 or so... or maybe a bit more. I know they were at least that when I got mine a couple year back...

Ok....did more reading/perusing...

I'm thinking about ordering a custom 2240 from these guys:

http://www.mountainaircustomairguns.com/model_2.htm
(except mine will retain the 8" barrel)

Hopefully I can get some grips in cocobolo. 530 fps in .22 caliber sounds good to me. Only 20 shots per CO2 cartridge, though. But oomph is king! :D
