I hope you told him to send it back in for correction. As far as I'm concerned the scales on a custom knife should be darn near next to perfect.

Lemme give him a shout...he's out playing mumbledy-peg with it...I'll scan the scales; you be the judge...I think I can even scan the blade wobble...it's worse when folded...

Here we go...The blade is pushed from one side to the other, scans are each side... :(

...Just noticed that mine was here as well...My daughter signed for it today and left it on the counter before she left for a birthday party tonight. Never told me...LOL...Kids ya know. Hope to get some pics up in here after she gets home with her camera. The blade is just what I was hoping for. They copied the 442 profile in S30V nicely. It looks great on the frame. The stag isn't matched as well as I'd want a "Custom" to be...but if you remember my "Fundraiser" BCCI 110... I went through a ton of problems with that one and it's scales before it finally got remedied to a certain degree. My blade doesn't wobble whether open or closed but it does sit hard to one side when closed. My MAJOR concern about this one is that one of the scales is not cemented properly to the liner and it's looking like it wouldn't take too much to pop it off. It's open quite a bit near the blade end of the frame. It moves easily when squeezing it up against the liner to close up the gap. You can slide a doubled up dollar bill into it easily. Not real happy with the care taken to put these together just like it seemed the 110's suffered from some form of lackadaisical assembly as to the fit and finish. Some knives are perfect yet as you see...some are not there at all. I'll try to get some pictures up to show what I have by tomorrow. I'm of the opinion that these are not "Customs" as to fit or finish. You may get a nice "Custom" in these 112's...you may not. The pics will show what I'm talking about. These were obviously not made in the "Custom Shop"...and "Buckcustom" went way above and beyond to get these out to all of us so quickly after he got 'em. Thanks so much John for doing this while your family was going through a terrible time...

I just received mine in the mail and one scale is fine but the other one has gaps so big I can fit a credit card in the space. :( This is worse than the 110 was and I was considering sending it back for a fix. After looking at the companion 112, I will be sending both back. I hope this is not a larger QA problem with short run knives. Like I said earlier, I just got a Cabela's Alaskan Guide 110 with stag scales and the fit is perfect.

Look what I got:) They came in the mail yesterday as I was about to leave for work. So I didn't get a good look at them until today. These two are perfect, Fit, finish and functionality are awesome. Thank you to all at Buck for making these jems!!!! The only thing I can think of that would make these even better is a "blade cut out" or "gold etching"; you know the kind that Trax loves so much:)

I bet it has a loose blade... :D
Funny, the blade on mine was actually too tight. I say was because I've already put it back in the mail to Buck for fixing. I also put the 110 in along with it. Either I have extremely bad luck or the QA on these things is in dire need of calibration. I'm sure Buck will make them right, but this is just a real pain in the ....er...neck.

JB,
Those are two very good looking knives. Hopefully mine looks as good when I get it back from Buck.

...Mike's right about your knives jb...They are indeed beautiful. It strikes me as extreemly strange how when making up a relatively small batch of "custom" knives...the assembly people can allow them to show such tremendous variation from knife to knife. This was never permitted in the environment I came from. The smaller the "batch" was the better and more consistent the quality was on each and every item. Like Mike also...my BCCI 112 is kind of tight as far as the blade goes with no wobble at all. I could live with that. I do however have that "gap" that Mike is talking about. It is a "pain" to have to return these knives as often as we do...especially after going through the same thing with the BCCI 110...Oh well..."once burnt shame on you...twice burnt...."...I'd like to know who worked on my knife...

Here's some pics of my BCCI 112. The scales themselves are nice. The blade itself is also just what I was hoping for. The "Gap" was something I wasn't expecting. Sorry for the lousy pics...I didn't set anything up...I just "shot 'em"...LOL...

The "GAP"

Here the "GAP" is just opening...almost looks like the scale isn't flat...

Darryl,
The gap on mine is between the scales and the bolsters. In each case it appears that they cut the angle wrong and there is a gap at each end but on opposite sides. The bad thing is, I get angry every time I pick up the knife.

...I know that feeling Mike. Sounds like the stag on your's may have been cut short and mounted as / is...Mine seems like it wasn't ground flat before it was afixed to the liners...that and the "cement" came loose or wasn't applied properly...It just bugs the heck outa me to have to keep sending these back and forth to Buck to have them fix what shoulda been there in the first place...note the "happy face" in my avatar...

BTW: Don't set the sheath down on anything you value...like a new Melton jacket...or an expensive dress shirt...or even a good pair of jeans...because (and I've said it before, with the BCCI 110), the BCCI 112 sheath is dripping with preservative... :(

I'm not a leather freak...is it really that hard to cure the leather without soaking it in whatever chemical it is that keeps dripping off??? Is it just oil??? Or is it actually Tannic acid???

I've had the BCCI 110 sheath hanging since I got it...and it still stains anything I set it on... :grumpy:
