Bad BE AWARE OF @obrbobr (Tomás)

Unfortunately this is the problem with doing private deals outside PP's rules. No matter what the buyer says, the deal is only as good as his(or Her) honesty. PP will revert to their rules if a claim is made. Luckily most buyers will stand by their word, no matter how much it hurt.
I have lost a few international shipments and like the OP offered to cover some to ease the pain. My buyers didn't expect that and were very happy being partially cover. This buyer should have been happy with that also. IMO
I agree 100%. Money comes and goes but trust is earned by being honest and by keeping your word.

Hello, I worked on a deal with this guy, forum nickname: O obrbobr (Tomás) about a month ago.
This guy is from the Czech Republic and asked me to ship to his country. I told him I preferred to ship only in the US but if he agreed to take full responsibility for it and pay shipping, I could ship to him.
He agreed.
I sent him the knife and kept in touch with him through the process until it arrived.
After it arrived, he claimed that the knife I sent was a different one and that on closer inspection he saw the box was tampered with.
I asked him to go to his post office and report it. I did the same here.
As you guys know USPS takes forever to investigate and one of the things they require is for the report of the damaged package at receiving post office. Well, this guy didn't get a report and I offered a few hundred just because I felt bad for the situation. He declined and then went to PayPal and opened up a case and said I had offered him a refund and he had declined.
I sent him the emails to remind him that he had agreed to take full responsibility if I shipped it and still he just kept crying about not being fair.
He then said he knew I was right but he proposed for me to pay 50% of the value of the knife.
I declined of course. I offered money out of the kindness of my heart and this guy wanted more?
Anyway, he then started acting like I was in the wrong and he went ahead and escalated the issue with PayPal.
Now he wants a full refund.
Please be careful.
This guy will say anything to make you feel confortable and agree to anything you say. After knife is sent, anything he agreed to goes out the window. I have added a screen shot of the email where he agreed to be responsible for knife and shipping. If you guys need more info and want more emails attached, let me know. Thanks for your time.

He lied about taking the risk, he probably lied about the knife as well.

I want to give you guys an update.
I was refunded my money last night. Tomas canceled the dispute and now I see the money in my account.
I also received an email from him and he apologized for everything.
He said he acted like an idiot, hastily and without honesty.
He said his having shipping problems with other knives he bought and that someone may be on to him and what he receives.

I am not a man that holds grudges. I also think everyone deserves the benefit of the doubt. If he acted angrily, which is understandable considering the loss, I could see how this went south quickly.

I also want to thank you all for the support. I always read comments of members saying what a great community this was but never understood what that meant.
Now I see.
The simple act of taking time out of your day to respond means so much. Just reading your comments as fellow collectors and vouching for me made the ordeal feel less important.
Thanks to you guys that commented. 🙏
Thanks BF.

Gotta say, that's worthy of respect. He could have just refunded the money, but instead also took the time to also communicate with you and apologize. That's some actual adulting on display. Kudos, and I'm glad that this appears to have ended on the best note it could have.

What an awesome, unexpected turn of events. I'm really happy that this worked out for you in the end.

And to you, Tomás, in the event you do read this: Thank you! Your introspection & subsequent change of heart, is very admirable.

This! Have to admit I'm a bit surprised, these things don't usually end well. Kudos to him for manning up.

Although it is discouraged, Paypal's "friends & family" payment can protect the seller in this type of deal. The buyer cannot make a chargeback through PayPal. They can still try to make a PayPal chargeback through their bank; however, it is not like a regular credit card chargeback and is very hard to succeed.

PayPal terms of service (which we each agreed to when signing up) includes that we agree not to ask for payments by F&F for goods or services. So by asking to be paid with F&F for a good or service, people are advertising their willingness to break their agreements.

Sep7imo Sep7imo given how this situation evolved, why don't you click on the "..." three dots button, then "Edit thread", and change the title to something like "obrbobr made a mistake but did the right thing in the end" and remove the "BAD"?

Personally I think the ‘Bad’ should stay. He lied and filed a PayPal dispute. Sure he manned up after a few days and did the proper thing but I wouldn’t call it a mistake. Sending someone the wrong knife is a mistake. This was intentional. OP got lucky this didn’t turn into a “you should know better than to use F&F” thread.
