Bead Blasting......

Can I send you an email? I want to send you the flashlight, and a couple knives.

Another question, what would stainless look like when stonewashed? like a sebenza?

Feel free to send an e-mail!

I use aluminum media in my tumbler so the stonewash effect isn't as pronounced on steels as it is with Ti or aluminum pieces. What the tumbler does is smooth out the blast on steels. Such as the blast is on most Kershaw blades. If I were to change out the media (no easy chore) in the tumbler to ceramic then the stonewashing effect would be similar to the Sebenza.

Hi There,

Thanks for the 'Great Offer', You don't meet very many people like yourself today. Willing to do something for others for free.

Bless You,
Electric

It's almost a year later, does the offer still stand? If so, I'll be getting in touch with you!

Thanks!

dsltech, I just joined this site because I'm so interested in your work. I have a Fallkniven S1 that I'd like to have a stonewash finish put on. It is VG10. Can I send it to you?

I'm assuming you first blast it then tumble it, is this the case?

Where do I go to find out where to send it to. Also, I'll be making a donation.

Lastly, I'm going to buy a tumbler for my own use..any recommendations for equipment and media?

Glad you have interest!
Please feel free to e-mail me, and we can schedule from there!
I would suggest this one for "hobby" and home use. As for media it depends on if the tumbler will be seeing mostly steel or aluminum. If it's steel go with ceramic media! If it will mostly be seeing aluminum go with aluminum media!
That tumbler is realitively small I believe so blades smaller than 4" will be all that you will be able to use it for. Of course this is all speculation because I don't own that one nor have I ever used anything like it.
My tumbler is of industrial grade and is rather large @ 3'!

dsl...are you there? I sent you an email yesterday. Just wondering what's on your agenda? Thanks!

No problem dsl, since I'm new I don't know how things work and when I didn't get a reply on the email I thought maybe it wasn't active yet or...something.

I'm in no hurry so would you prefer I get back to you after the holidays?

Thanks!

Wow! Is this great service still available? I'm thinking about taking some of the finish off my ESKabar. I'm not 100% on it yet though.

Thanks

Dslteck,

First off I want to thank you for making this service available. It is very cool that you are benefiting the Bladeforums community with no tangible reward.

Secondly, I was wondering about how much material is taken off titanium during bead blasting. Is it noticeable at all? Also, is it possible to achieve a smoother shinier finish on titanium using a different media?

I know I have been away for some time now with work and our new baby but........
I just wanted to let our fellow forum members know I am still offering this service to you all if desired!!!!

Just a quick update for all my fellow tinkerers and knife fanatics.......

I now have ceramic media in my tumbler machine, so now I can apply a "stonewashed" finish on steel.
Let me add I have done a few so far and the results are great.......in my opinion.....beautiful :)
