Bear Attack (video)

Having been charged by a Bear myself, you don't have time to think, you just act, luckily for me both times it veared off at the last second, my wife thought we were going to die and didn't film a thing, bless her.

I haven't been charged by a bear, but I was charged by a black rhino once.

I froze like a rabbit in the headlights and we were just knocked flying like skittles in a bowling alley. Luckily only sustained a fractured sternum after he decided to teach me a quick lesson in manners by butting me twice as I lay on the ground. A .458 from the Ranger's CZ put him out of commission before he could stick that horn in me, and I think I owe that fellow my life.

I totally admire that dude in the video for keeping his head. I believe only experience can give you that ability to react so quickly when under stress of that kind.

watching the video, you know he tried to kill her but missed there is not enough time in the video to fire a warning shot then and kill shot if needed and let say mommy bear was to kill or maul a few of the others ,looking at the video again nobody else drawed a firearm,i saw a few wiggling some bows,.i know everything happend lickety split and all are very lucky but let's say the men were separated from the raft,i bet all there gear (knife, fire making ETC.) was in their packs, nobody plans on being knock from the raft by a bear/rocks/water rapids; you never know and lack of planning can spell danger!Great video , i thought the camera man was gonna jump from the raft.

Bear is something you just don't want to mess with.

Somebody earlier posted the speed of a running bear, and said that it was 35mph. That is correct. The average bear in a full-on run is faster than a rabbit. It is also much faster than the speed of the fastest man on earth.

As far as the shotgun vs handgun debate, I am inclined to believe that a shotgun loaded with buckshot is going to do a lot of soft tissue damage to the face of a bear. I don't necessarily think that shot will kill the bear, although I don't think that it is impossible either should a pellet manage to penetrate the bear's brain. Nevertheless, I just don't see how a bear could ignore having its nose, eyes, and mouth blasted by a shotgun. Follow up with slugs and I think you'd be ok.

Amen brother. My father killed a grizzly in the Yukon back in the 60's with a 30-06. The bear got a little too close for comfort and it scared the crap out of the old man. I don't even want to mess with blackies out in the bush.
