I don't think I have words for this. Although I do notice that it's now marked down twice on KnifeCenter.

I saw their email about it the other day. I think you'd be hard-pressed to find an uglier "traditional" pocket knife.

Wow. There is not a single redeeming quality I can see about that knife.

bear grylls anything sounds like a bad idea. the shows entertaining but i wouldnt want that gerber, the fire starter or this traditional

The bear grylls grandfather knife is supposed to be based on a knife that his grandfather used during WW11 . it would be interesting to see the original knife . I have been googling without any success . dose anybody know or do you have any suggestions to what it might have been ? :)

I'm afraid I can't describe that knife.
Gary would give me an infraction.

What a piece of junk. Here are two knives from the days when gerber did make legendary blades.

You could use code.:p

Personally I like Bear Grylls- he has done some good stuff- amongst which is being a great ambassador for the scouts.
The shows ...yeeah entertaining but blah blah blah we all know the rest.
As for that fire lighter- I have a couple. Now I was a professional firefighter for 30 years until recently and I think that entitles me to know how to light a fire.
Ive tried using the BG fire starter in my wood heater in inside my house with dry kindling and and news paper -frankly it was a PITA-it takes ages to get anything alight.
BG does it with wet green sticks in a puddle on the floor of the rainforest, in the rain ,with one strike and WHOOFF.

Ive seen the Granddad Grylls knife in person and have to say it nearly caused me to vomit. It hurt my eyes.

The word is eyesore. :barf:

Inappropriate in a Traditional as his 'grandfather' could well have been using a SAK with tools: Traditional, practical, good looking and with pedigree. Or a decent Scout knife.

I certainly hope that people with no knowledge of Traditionals don't think that we all carry ugly slabs of knives:eek:

Barf Grylis

I wouldn't expect anything other from a piece of junk from this franchise.

The product of Grylls' imagination? It wouldn't be the first time he's been less than candid :thumbdn:

Wow, it seems unusual for BF members to be unanimous in their opinions about any topic, but the consensus on this knife is unequivocal!

So, just playing devil's advocate here, the knife DOES have a caplifter, a feature that gets a lotta love around here. Would anyone's opinion change if the knife were marketed under the name BEER Grylls??;)

It wouldn't have been so horrible to look at it if was constructed with more "traditional" materials and design. Of course, FLASH sells. I applaud the premise that they are at least trying to further the use of blades in normal society, albeit for a profit.

It at least brings the positive use of cutlery into the limelight. So for that reason, I give Bear a thumbs up, but certainly not the knife his grandfather would have used.
