Bear Grylls Grandfather Knife?

That,s because those two companies are not related what so ever and have nothing to do with each other outside of sharing a common name. If they did you probably wouldn't enjoy your fruit as well.

Pshaw! Next thing you're going to try and tell me that my Dove beauty bar is not made by the folks who make those delicious chocolate bars.

Wow. That may be the ugliest traditional knife I've ever gazed upon. I could store that in the pocket of my creepy uncle's leisure suit. I think my grandma has some costume jewelry that matches that knife.

Let's make a list of the positive features:
1. You could leave it on the hood of your car and when you came back, it would still be there.

Okay, that's all I got. Can anybody help me out here?

You my friend are not right and in the words of "Larry the Cable Guy I don't care who you are that's there's funny.":D

2. might make a good emergency fishing sinker or lure.

Just to confirm it wasn't the original Bears grandad one that I saw -it was the actual BG version as shown at the beginning .Yeeessh ..eeasy stomach!

Yes, it looks exactly like that. I've actually seen a couple of these in flea-markets just recently.

Japanese hobos or the knives?:D
I just had a vision -Jack buying a Japanese hobo at a flea market and carting him home on the bus. Upon arriving home the following converstaion ensues
Jacks neighbour - "Whatya got theer Lad?"
Jack- it's a Japanese hobo.
Jacks neighbour- Japanese 'obo eh? Dun't look like a woodwind instrument!":p

i would actually like to have one of the Japanese Hobo knives purely as a curiosity, but every example i've seen was overpriced.

I saw one at a flea-market just a couple of weeks ago. The average price of knives on this market is under $5. A new seller had the Hobo knife, had no idea what is was, thought it was an old Sheffield knife. Everything on his stall was vastly overpriced, including the Hobo Knife, which was priced around $70!!

LOL! :D Very good Meako! :D

I dunno. I don;t really like the looks of the knife but it appears functional. Also considering the same people who buy the bear grylls knives are probably the same kind of people who would otherwise be buying a gas station knife I think it is actually a significant step up. They were responsible for getting me into knives in the first place and I think they serve a valuable purpose in the knife world as a "gateway drug" to the addiction we all suffer here on BF. Just my two cents.

You have a valid point there mate.very true.

Cheers. It was actually the way I got into knives properly in the first place. Also the way I found Blade Forums. I know about better and buy better knives now but I still have a few of those Gerber's knocking around. Never gonna beat anything else I own now but I still have a bit of a soft spot there.

I wonder ... since it is pretty much unanimous in the Traditional sub-forum that this knife ... ummm ... (1950's ... don't want an infraction ... STINKS!!!! Yeah! "Stinks" should be safe) ... that this knife stinks, do you think it would be popular over in the General Forum, with the mall ninja hipsters?

Reading the reviews on a website named for a South American river almost made me want to cry. All I can say after reading those is that I want to give a hearty and sincere thank you to the members on this sub forum for educating me on traditionals and how to see quality in a knife. Had you not, I may have bought one. Nah, even uneducated I can still see it's ugly. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Well ... nothing I would buy in my whole life. Never...

BUT....

It might sell due to its "big" name. That being said - if it could just get some of the guys into traditionals (the well made and genuine Ones) that would buy a cheapo tacticlol knife but let them carry a Stockman, Barlow or another tradtional knife per se instead. The Bear Grylls has done it´s job.

I think is an ugly knife. I mean look at it

But "like a perfectly weighted skipping stone, it feels great in the hand, too"!
I think they're targeting people a little more senile than me. Nice to know there are such.
